I have not noticed this print variant before, but these two 78 Nolan Ryan cards have a partial blue border on the left side of the card. In addition, the normally green grass to the left of Ryan is a "blue" color.....the blue grass and blue border line up with each other. Might be possible that this small area of blue was due to the absence of yellow ink during the printing process. Interestingly, the few uncut sheets I viewed, this Ryan card appears as the far left card, meaning there is not an adjacent card that also has a streak of missing yellow ink. Of the couple hundred copies listed/sold on ebay, I noticed just one copy(one on the right). Anyone else notice this variant before?

Cool find! Great info that there is no card beside it. At least now there is no other card to look for. I am still looking for a 86 Topps Terry Puhl with a blue streak.

Thanks Ben....good luck with the Puhl card. That Puhl card may end up being tougher to locate than a variant from the 60s or 70s as it is not usually listed as a single.

I assume Ben wants a blue streak Puhl to match with these two,. I have not found one either

And here is another blue oddity from that set...plus another problem

I figured that if anyone would have a copy of this variant, it would be you Al....your version is even more "ultra rare" version as it has some slight touches of yellow mixed in as opposed to the other two copies that do not appear to have any touches of yellow.

Your left one looks like it has that same yellowish pattern to me

For items like this you really have to auction them off to figure out the 'market' price. I recall a Leaf Musial without the blue ink on front selling for mega bux a few years ago.

Adam, I am not sure the "market" price of this card is that great....at least compared to the euphoria of a collector (like me) finding a print variant such as this that was not previously known (to me anyway).

Ironically, the image of the card on the right from my original post sold for like a about a buck + s/h on ebay. Following this thread, if that card was relisted, would it likely sell for more??? Who knows. My guess is that there are 100s, if not 1000s, of this Ryan card out there with this blue ink spot, where as the Musial and other famous corrected print mishaps are likely found in much lower in quantities.

Now Al's copy, the ultra rare version with green specks in the blue border, would clearly bring a premium as compared to the other two known examples without green specks in the blue border....
