I finally want to get one of these, after holding off for so long due to well-known difficulties with this set. I wonder if I might pose a couple questions for the "experts" on this here:

1) It seems only BVG really grades and has holder (and the holder makes them look bad). Why is this?

2) Is there any trend with sales, let's say on HOFers? Many collectors at all? Is it worth getting graded if it seems you may have a "3" or better?

3) Anything you'd like to add, hailing or warning about these fragile items?

I have three of these. Two are in BVG holders. They are ugly and clunky. I have found that prices are comparable for raw and graded, although sellers seem to look for their item to sell for a premium if graded a 3 or more.

The BVG holders are very thick, which accounts for the horrible look in scans (and in person). Technical grades don't matter as much for this fragile paper issue. "Cards" without tears, creases, and/or frayed edges command a premium (obviously).
