I was just doing some writing, covering the MLB draft and found a great player on St Mary's College. His name is Connor Hornsby. He IS related to Rogers Hornsby and he just happens to play second base. Through his first 17 games, he is hitting .320 with 12 walks. He's only a sophomore, so he isn't draft eligible yet. Someone to keep an eye on in the future.

Thanks for the heads up!

And was sorry to hear about Taillon. Damn.

As someone who knows alot about the up and coming ball players, are you seeing more kids have TJ surgery than, say five years ago?

I had the same exact thought (about the frequency) about TJ surgery today because of Taillon's injury. This article has the information that you seek.

The Pirates have been pretty good compared to the rest of the league when it comes to TJS. Unfortunately, they got hit pretty hard this year with Taillon and another kid named Clay Holmes, who could have made a name for himself this year. I went to three of his games last year and he looked better each time. Big kid, could throw 95 and has nice secondary stuff, so that was a big blow too.

As that chart above shows, the amount of surgeries has leveled off around the league, but they are going to happen, even with modern training and technology. Taillon is a great kid, smart and hardworking with big potential and still very young, so I expect him to bounce back and this should just be a minor setback in the overall grand scheme of things.

Reviving an old thread. Connor Hornsby is hitting .455 this year as a draft-eligible junior.

That was Cobb's criticism of him, as expressed to Ted Williams, if I recall the story. And when Williams made a smart ass retort referring I think to Hornsby's .424 season, Cobb threw him out.
