I am new to the forums so if I am violating any policies please let me know. Recently I picked up a T206 Carolina Brights Back card. How do I decide the value on something like that? Not just for potential sales but even to send it in to be graded. My collection consists almost entirely of low grade common backs, so this one leaves me scratching my head as I can't find a straight forward answer. Any help would be appreciated.

Cardtarget.com is a great free source for looking up past sale prices.

Probably $300-400 range for a common in fair condition these days.

It should get you a few hundred bob at least. Is the front in nice shape?

The design of the Carolina Brights backs are really great and very unique.

Yours is nice!

I also remember an SGC 20 Stanage that went for $415 or so a few months back.

So was this a hidden gem? I see in the pick up thread you called it a "find". So is there a good story behind this "find"?

There is not a great story, but for me it is. I stumbled upon an antique/card dealer who happened to have some T206 in a display case. I spoke to him about a trade and he gave me a want list. His want list (vintage equipment) matched what I had just listed on craigslist. We worked out a trade for this carolina brights, an ungraded T206 Schlel, and a PSA 4 common.

For me, being a relatively low budget collector, it was an exciting find. I did not know much about the Carolina Brights value and I was just happy to have a back that didn't exist in my limited collection. I think just to be able to find T206's where you are not expecting them and pull off a trade rather than loads of cash is what some card collecting should be about. It is the thrill of the hunt rather than the instant gratification of eBay and such.

Nice find! :)

And you traded off some stuff that you didn't want for it.

Congrats.

Thank you Jantz. The shop actually has another 7 or 8 cards so I am going back this weekend with more stuff. I just hope someone else didn't beat me to it!
