The National Game by A.H. Spink from 1910. The outside shows a lot of water damage/stains, but the inside is very good shape, apart from the first page.

That would've been my answer as well.

You'll surely get a more precise answer from Max, Barry or Gary, once they see this post. There are some really good "book guys" in this forum :)

I agree that $300- $400 is about right. I have seen them sell for about $1,000 but that would be signed by Spink.

Maybe a bit less than $300-400 because of the water staining, but that's a fair estimate for it.

I am with Barry on value, but there are a number of differences between the first and second editions. The second edition is enlarged with new material added, including an article on baseball writers, interview of Comiskey, poetry, including Casey and Casey's revenge, and a section on umpires. The 1st has 355 numbered pages plus illustrations list and index and the 2d has 406 numbered pages plus illustrations list and index. In addition, the 2d edition has pages added to the roman numeral pages, especially LXII - LXVI, where Spink explains the 2d edition. (the 1st only has thru XXII for roman numerals, which, i believe is mostly, if not all, less illustrations). These books are frequently misdescribed which is why i gave, what is probably, too much info. Both great books, frequently found signed, or with a known baseball person's ownership mark.

It's even possible that a second edition would be a little more desirable than a first, because of the extra photographs. That's pretty unusual for any book. But the value on each is pretty close.

I think the 2d edition should have a higher value with the additional information. Another book like that is the Ellard, Baseball in Cincinnati, where the 2d edition has additional material.
