Has the “new” changes made to the all-star game, by having the winning team getting home field advantage in the World Series really improved the game?

I don’t think so. I don’t see how an all star on a “non” playoff team would run through a wall to help win the game knowing it doesn’t help him or his team. I think more needs to be looked at.

I was thinking of a way to provide every team some bonus to winning. A way to encourage each all star to really want to win the game. A way for fans to once again be excited to watch the best of the best lay it all out there and try and beat one another. A way so that the managers aren’t just looking to make sure everyone gets into the game. After all this isn’t little league.

With the way free agency works now, how the bottom 10 teams have their 1st pick protected and how a lot of teams will really hold off on a mid tier free agent so they wont loose their pick got me to thinking.

What if the winning team in an all star game had their whole league rewarded by protecting their #1 pick? And if they were a bottom 10 team, well then they had their #2 pick protected. I think that would be a good incentive to really try and win. I think owners and GM’s would encourage their players to get out there and do their best, or at least play harder than they do now.

In conjunction with that the voting for the game needs to change as well. My god, having fans vote on line with basically an unlimited number of votes isn’t good. If I can vote 35 times from home, 35 times from work, o yea and if a just set my router to have a changing ip address (which is simple to do) its unlimited voting for me. Players should be selected by a council if you will. Lets just say 1 executive (maybe the GM or assistant GM) representing each team on the national side, all sit down in a room and pick the team together. The same would go for the American side of course. Having it done this way should ensure that the best team goes out on the field cause the Teams now have a real reason to want to win. Improving the major league team is a top priority even if you know your not going to the playoffs.

The NFL has completely lost their all star game (pro Bowl) its probably only a matter of time before they don’t bother playing it any more. The MLB All Star game, is a joke from how its voted on to how the games are played. Seligs idea was ok at best, but its not working. They should look into once again making the all star game what it once was. A true classic game featuring the best players in the league playing hard against each other and give us fans what we really want to see.
