So there was a 101 yr old NJ man who passed away, approx. 10 yrs ago, and he left his small collection of tobacco cards to his family, which he had collected as a young man. His collection will be in our next auction with many more details. While there were no freaks or super rare cards, there are a lot of nice cards. There are lots of Cycle 350s in very nice shape and a lot of AB 350s in nice shape. Here is a sampling, pre-SGC grading...It's always exciting to see cards never seen in the hobby before...Whomever acquires these will be their 2nd owner.....

There are a little over 200 cards and there will be quite a few Sweet Caporal pins (still on the way to us).
I am told there is a neat picture of the collector riding one of those high wheel bicycles, which we will share too. The Great Niece, the consignor, is going to do the write up for us to share. As most of us do, I find it really interesting to see "virgin" to the hobby cards. How the borders are, their brightness, what mfg's they were etc...This gentleman looks to have smoked Sweet Caporal, American Beauties, Cycles and Piedmonts mostly. As far as I know the lady is sending us the whole collection, most of it is in hand now. Like I said, not a big one, but a nice one...I would call it vg+ with a few lesser and a few better. The best ones will be graded. Those Broadleafs shown are as nice as they look. I am crossing my fingers on their grades :).

Leon already had trucker boy find, now this will be the bicycle find.
Post some more of the tobacco cards if you have time. Even the more common ones. I also find it very interesting and exciting to see cards that have been tucked away for a century. Also, I might be able to afford some of the more common ones, and I'd love to get one from this collection.

It's very interesting to me how much nicer the T207's look compared to the T206's. I know, the T206's are very nice... but those T207's look NM-MT with pretty sharp corners. Just some centering issues. I wonder if this will prove true of the whole find, or if there will be some juicy 7's and 8's in the T206 cards?

Maybe he collected the T206s as a 10 year old, and played with them a bit more. By the time the t207s came out 2-3 years later, he was a bit older and played with them just a bit less. Who knows, interesting question and just a theory.

I run a small auction company with another hobbyist and board member, Scott Brockelman. Our next auction is Feb 24th through Mar. 8th.....And since someone asked why our auction house? Because I asked :)......and we are still accepting consignments for another week or so....
actually, in addition to my snarky comment, the lady remembered me from approximately 10 yrs ago, when I helped her quite a bit just because she needed help with this collection. They didn't do anything at the time but she said she remembered I had helped her and that was the reason she consigned them. Plus she knows I help run this forum and have an audience of vintage collectors.

I dont recall the population reports, but that one has to have a chance at the highest graded, I would think. Gorgeous card.

Highest graded PSA examples on the Saier are one 7 and one 6. Good luck with the grades.

My understanding is the 101 yr old gentleman smoked them as a young man. As for those T207s, I don't want to jinx them, but when I put them under high magnification on the corners there is almost no fuzz :)...They will be sent for grading on Monday.......we shall see.

I spoke with the consignor this morning. She said she will do a write up this week and I will be able to post it. I am pretty sure it will include some neat pictures. Also, I guess the gentleman who originally collected these might not have been a smoker. We'll see what more comes out as she converses with the family. As for a count of cards, it is 225. Scott and I are sending in around 20 to be graded today, SGC of course. There will also be some Sweet Caporal pins but they are being sent this week so not sure what they entail. The breakdown is as follows on the cards...
T205- 8 w/assorted backs but no real rare ones..common players
T207- 2 Broadleafs which are getting graded and 9 Recruits...all commons
T206- (3-4 have the GOOD stamp on back?)
AB350 no frame... 1
AB350 w/frame... 19

For SGC several grades higher on each and for PSA close to the highest, i think....there might be a PSA 7 of one of them.
