The tin also has nothing to do with George Kelly the hall of fame baseball player. I would guess that George J. Kelly was the owner of the company that made the polish. Also for anyone interested in this tin the $299 opening bid is WAY too high.

ok. i claim to know absolutely nothing about this stuff, i don't see anything which indicates he was still alive or dead and how that is used to date this.

i could see it being a problem if it was before the guy was born? right? but not the other way around. what am i missing?

George J Kelly Corp. is still in business today. It is in Lynn, Mass. They are still in the shoe polish business.

There was a movie called "Slide Kelly Slide" that came out in 1927 that was a baseball movie, but had nothing to do with Mike "King" Kelly, it was a fictional account of a Yankees pitcher. REA's description of the product is just conjecture. The song was definitely about Mike Kelly, the movie not at all, the shoe polish, who knows?
