Name the Postwar Topps set (pre-1980) that includes three rookie cards of guys that died before the year was out. Of course I would want you to name the guys as well.
The above set also contained the rookie card of a guy that died before the decade was over. Name the guy.
Only one other Postwar Topps set (based on my research) had as many as 3 rookie cards of guys that would die within the next 10 years. What set and which guys?

Note: I had to amend #3 (originally asked for 4 guys) because one of the 4 guys had a card in the previous year's set (not sure how I forgot that - it is a somewhat prominent card).

very good--beat me by a couple of minutes--I knew I should have just answered part one first :)

I would add that Lefty Phillips also died within the decade (1972) and I believe 1970 may have been his rookie card, since he never played in the majors.

Todd, my first thought was a different year which I think might be the answer to number 3 but I will not say as I am not sure and don't want to hog this thread.

1970 was my next thought with Munson's rookie card in the set but took me a while to figure out the three players.

On a side note, I saw Thurmon Munson's last game as the Yankees spanked my White Sox in Comiskey Park 9 - 1.

FYI... Question #3 - the 4 guys are not obscure players (like the 3 guys in the '70 set). I thought that this would have been the easier question. Anybody?

Well, it's not '76. there were only 2

Lyman Bostock
Mike Miley

I had to amend question #3 (originally asked for 4 guys) because one of the 4 guys had a card in the previous year's set (not sure how I forgot that - it is a somewhat prominent card).

Anyway, the reworded question #3: Only one other Postwar Topps set (based on my research) had as many as 3 rookie cards of guys that would die within the next 10 years. What set and which guys?
...and part 2 of this question (to see how good you are): Name the guy I originally thought belonged as a "died young" rookie card in this set.

Funny, that is how this set of questions started. I noticed Bostock and Miley and wondered if there were others from the '76 set (there weren't).

3. 1968 Topps

Don Wilson

Bob Moose

Danny Frisella

Though, 1976 was my first thought as well.

1968 was the set I was looking for. Any idea who the other "died young" guy was (that actually was on a RC in the '67 set)?

Grrrr....I don't know the fourth player.

I wanted to say Mark Belanger but he passed away well after the 10 years though he was still young.

Dumb of me to forget he was in the '67 set but Ron Willis died of a brain tumor in the early 70's. I forgot that he was on the high # Rookie Stars with Jim Shellenback in '67.

I saw that when I was checking Baseball Reference to come up with the questions.

Ahhh...very challenging questions.
