View Full Version : Net54....Never heard of it

I visited a store recommended on the forum. The owner asked how I heard of his store and when I replied Net54 the guy gave me a weird look and said "Never heard of it. Just being honest." I have had the same reaction the last two shops I have visited. This is surprising since the last owner was trying to build a mid-grade Goudey set. I recommended Net54 and sent a follow up email but I don't believe he ever joined.

I don't get it.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing??

I would guess about 1/100 of 1% of collectors have heard of Net54. It's a secret :). Now, if you say what percentage of pre-war collectors, who are internet savvy and always on it, have heard of it......the percentage would be quite a bit higher. Maybe all the way up to 1% .....

LOL, funny Leon. I actually agree as well. It seems like a number of guys that concentrate on the later issue sets to post-War have not heard about Net54. It seems as if the penetration to various collectors is skewed towards the earlier years (ie 1900's to perhaps 1920's). JMO

And with comments like this the auction house spoken about must be quite proud :)-

"Leon I skimmed through the auction - had I known this was going on I would have raised the bids by at least $1000 - their loss.. "

I am sure their consignors are joyous........

I was shocked that the owner chasing the Goudey set didn't join. I am almost certain that some of you guys could have helped him with leads.

Probably true. Ironically, when I got back into collecting this is one of the first sites I found.

I found this site after being on the Ebay sports boards for years...someone mentioned 'Net54'...I checked it out and have been hooked ever since....don't think I've even gone back to the ebay board in 3 years...

I would imagine the consignors are extremely distraught over the lost bids with stern words directed towards Greg for his lack of efforts. But what can you do…. ;)

I told my cousin's husband about it the last two times I saw him. He collects a lot, goes to shows too, but he only collects 60's and up. I see there is some good action on the post-war board and BST section for him. He never joined though, as far as I know.

I am a nobody, but I am usually logged into Net54 on my blackberry, my kindle fire, my laptop, and my pc. Does this make me a "somebody"? (Or does it indicate that I need to get a real life?)

I seem to have replaced porn with photos of old baseball players. Yes, my life has gone downhill rapidly. That Titus guy is really cute!

A year ago, when my cousin asked for help about some Ruth press photos, I did not know anything about the darn things. Being out of collecting for about 25 years, I lost touch. I posted some on ebay discussion board and several collectors told me to go to Net54 and post there.
Not only did I get the best professional help one can get, I got hooked on this site and visit here 8 to 10 times a day. I never have collected pre war cards or photographs before, but press photos, I am now hooked on, to my wifes' delight............yea, wifes' delight,....... I know you guys were not believing that one.
As far as vintage sports photography, this is well known by collectors on ebay at the very least.
I have also recommended this site to many others.
Keep up the good work all.

Can we get a cool patch that says 1%...like a biker gang without the leather jackets and motorcycles?

What's the saying, cream rises to the top? Well, that's how I see Net 54's membership: knowledgeable enthusiasts who want a safe, fun place that enhances their enjoyment of the hobby.

It's not for everybody, and thank God for that.

I found Net 54 while trying to find an autograph example, now I try to check the site everyday:) I do not do a lot of posting since I feel I'm way out of my league, but I make it a point to read all the great knowledge presented and do a majority of my buying from its Board members:D

Definitely good. Think of it as a self-cleaning feature. That lack of knowledge re: this board helps keep out the scammers, lowlifes and trolls.

My grey Cobb Net54 T-shirt opened up quite a few pleasant conversations the last time I visited the Philly Show. Guess this and my interaction with the guys from Heritage Auctions upped my street cred. :)

I never heard of it either until 4 Irish Gentlemen changed my life . Ewing , Corcoran , Gillespie and Keefe . A few kind folks told me about it . I have not missed many days since .
