Here's my entry...so many great old seats!!!!Thanks for sharing everyone

My Dad worked on the original construction of Dodger Stadium and we had 24 seats at one time. They were left overs and all the workers took what they could carry. 8 in our old backyard stayed with the sale of the house in 1990. 16 were rescued from the crawl space of "Grandmas" house when sold in 2010. These were put together shortly after with the same seat and row numbers we used to have in the 60's and 70's growing up at the Stadium.

My friend who put these together for me did 2 for himself in blue and a 4 pack for another friend. A set of 4 remain untouched.

Wakefield Nebraska is a small town of about 1,500 in the northeast part of the state. They buy seats from old stadiums and use them as part of their seating. You pay extra to sit in one of the "stadium" seats. They have seats from Wrigley (1998), Fulton County Stadium, Anaheim Stadium, Rosenblatt, Milwaukee County stadium and others. It is a beautiful small park with flower gardens, hanging flowers, a well manicured field and boisterous fans when their legion team is playing.

Finally able to post these photos of 6 Crosley Field seats with two figural ends that we found at an antique store in Ft. Myers about 10 years ago. They still had a vintage moving company's wire tag attached to them with reference to the previous owner's home in Cincinnati. For some reason, somebody sandblasted nearly all of the original orange paint off of them, except in some of the cracks. I would never consider repainting old stadium seats, but in this case we were forced to because there was only bare wood and iron. These photos were taken before we did anything and the seats were separated into a section of 4 and a section of 2. I don't have a finished photo, but we mounted the whole section on a single base and they're now 'functional furniture'. We also have a 3 seat wooden section from Wrigley and wooden Tiger Stadium sections of 3, 3, and 4 that are all functional. The 4 seat row of Tiger Stadium seats sits in the lobby of our business for customers to enjoy.

These are great. Mine is from Seals Stadium (as is the cushion), by way of the Tacoma Rainiers. They sold these a few years ago for the bargain price of $75 ea. A buddy made the stands and I had two extra. They work great and I put the pair on ebay for $20. Some other guy who sells seat stands sent me a nasty email telling me mine were junk, cheap, etc, etc. Jeez dude, who asked you?

I recently checked into Candlestick seats...the greedy 49er's are selling them for $700 a pair. Ridiculous.

Just thought I would throw this out there. I am finished with my project and have 2 yankee stadium seat parts left. The left side is all intact no broken legs. The center section has a broken leg but the seat side holders are still good. Very hard to find these parts. I do believe that some can be interchanged with other seats. Brock L inspired me to put these on and also Brock is looking for a older yankees slat back cast iron side. If anyone knows of someone who has one please contact myself or Brock L. These parts are for the larger curved box seats that were up close to the front. These are original. The picture top left is from my project no wood parts for sale. The other two are the parts . Im taking offers on them I will be fair but these arenot cheap. Al

I refinish and sell seats from the old Met Stadium in Minnesota (the Twins/Vikings original home, where the Mall of America now stands.) If anyone is looking for those, let me know. I also have stands available for them.

Website: http://vendiamo.com

I'll be listing more on my website once we start getting some warmer (above 32 degree) temperatures again. But you can call to see what will be available: 651-674-7777

About a month ago, a local news station came out and did a story on them:

As a '70s Reds Fan, I still hate the Dodgers too. Remember those great rivalries, when both teams were in the West...

But that classic Jacket, in that condition... a mouth watering piece :o Just a beautiful work of art, from a time when they took true pride in workmanship.

Have to agree on the 1970s Dodgers have grown up in Cincinnati during that time frame. As for jackets themselves, may have to start a new thread on those as I have a number of them and in my mind, they constitute an undervalued and significantly under researched artifact line.

a Wrigley seat is worth around $500

richiea13
02-18-2014, 05:34 PM
Your model rear mount Wrigley seat WAS one model that was also employed in The Polo Grounds. (Note: A second rear mount style seat was also used in The Polo Grounds over the years as well). Conversely, both parks painted their seats dark green, so you can understand how some people might get confused. With that said, a middle row (non-figural) Polo Grounds seat in all original/unrestored condition can easily fetch a grand plus these days .... and possibly/probably more if condition is very good. The current value of your Wrigley is roughly half that amount, as Mr. Ozie eluded to earlier. So, while the guy you bought this seat from might have made an honest mistake ..... its also plausible that he knew exactly what he was selling you and intentionally misrepresented it in order to make more money on you. May I ask you if you paid more than $500.00 for it, Mark?

Here's what I was told. The guy I bought the seats from got them from his grandfather who was an usher at Polo grounds. He said it was pair, but the one next to it had a crack in the cast iron. Took it to a guy who said he could fix it, and actually attempted to weld it with the wood in place and basically destroyed the other seat. He then separated them and kept the non ruined one. There was some major disgust when he told me the story. Could it be complete BS , sure, but thats what I was told. And If anyone is interested in it, let me know. It doesn't fit my collection

The guy's story is a GREAT story, Matt ..... but its just that .... a story.

The 'smoking gun' piece of evidence in the seat number. Wrigley painted its seat numbers white and in the exact size & font as your seat. Polo Grounds seat numbers were much fancier and a bit larger .... and more of a silvery-white, not white-white (see attached photos). The photos I attached show a triple Wrigley Field seat in all original/unrestored condition, courtesy of a 2008 Lelands auction. The other photo shows a few unrestored/all original Polo Grounds seat parts that are the same exact model as the Wrigley parts.

Note too that all original/unrestored Polo Grounds seats sport more of a 'Kelly Green' color than dark green.

Here's what I was told. The guy I bought the seats from got them from his grandfather who was an usher at Polo grounds. He said it was pair, but the one next to it had a crack in the cast iron. Hey guys, I wanted to share pictures of my new stadium seat. It's not necessarily true "memorabilia" and it's definitely not vintage so please indulge me!

I currently own a Metropolitan Stadium and Metrodome seat I keep in my home office:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e184/avsfan23/IMAG1652_zpshqx9xbm9.jpg

I want to complete the Minnesota Twins stadium trifecta so I reached out to the maintenance department at Target Field to see if they had any broken or unused seats they could part with. I was told all seats were kept for parts but the Twins kindly directed me to the seat vendor. So, for the past couple months I have been working with the seat manufacturer to create a "replica" Target Field seat. I haven't gotten it in possession yet but I got pictures of it this morning:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e184/avsfan23/39%2045%2000%2035...161651%202_zpsxwuzabe9.jpg http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e184/avsfan23/39%2045%2000%2035...161651%201_zpsvpzsdeeh.jpg

I had them make it Row 3, seat 34 to commemorate two of the best Twins players there have been. Anyways, I am so excited about it I had to share with people that might understand! I'll post pictures once I get it with the other two.

I had them make it Row 3, seat 34 to commemorate two of the best Twins players there have been. Anyways, I am so excited about it I had to share with people that might understand! I'll post pictures once I get it with the other two.

Just based on your locale, are you thinking Giants? If so, keep us (i.e. me) posted :p

Thanks Greg and thank you for all of the information on the Gilliam bat. Very helpful. The sticker I put on there myself, I actullay peeled it off when I went to a Yankees game way back.

Just completed the restoration on this Original Yankee Stadium seat I acquired a couple months back. This was my first time restoring a stadium seat and I am very happy with how it turned out! All wood and screws are original and I also left the screws unpainted so you can see their age. Custom built a home plate to mount it to for added support. Thanks to Al for the advice during this project!

Turned out great! I have done a few different stadium seats. When I get them they are usually in rough shape. I use a wire brush to take off the loose paint and repaint over that. I've seen people take them down to bare wood but then they look too new when they are done. You want them to look like they have paint over paint over paint because thats how old seats should look.

Found the table at an antique resale shop and the lamp at a garage sale. Haven't been able to find out anything about either one. The lamp was in the back of the garage and wasn't for sale. I asked the elderly lady if it was for sale and she said she didn't know if it worked I asked if she would sell it and she gave me a price:D

It looks like Snoopy is at the plate with Lucy playing second.

I posted these in the memorabilia section a few months ago but not on here. I bought them in rough shape from Huggins & Scott Auctions. Cleaned them up and had to replace one slat and added a new base. Painted them grey which I believe was the last color. thiis is my 5th seat from an old stadium. I have Crosley Field, Cleveland Municiple, Yankee Stadium I, Comiskey Park and now Forbes.

I'd like to get an Ebbets Field seat despite the park being gone before I was born. I like the old historic parks, the first steal and concrete ones. I really only have room for one more seat, maybe two, Fenway (wood), Cleveland (wood) and County Stadium in Milwaukee would be cool since I saw games played there. Yankee Stadium because of it's place in baseball history would be great as would Forbes.

I have Comiskey, Wrigley (3) one of which is bleacher, Polo Grounds, Crosley and Chicago Stadium

Did you buy any of the old Tinker Field/Griffith Stadium seats? I bought a pair and I've been lurking here trying to figure out how best to restore them.

I think the stadium seats are cool as well. When I was about to start a stadium seat collection a fellow collecting friend said "the seats are uncomfortable as heck at the stadium, would you actually sit in the seats at home?" I thought he made a valid point and I have yet to purchase a seat. There is also the issue of space which is limited. More power to you seat collectors.

I had a rather "portly" friend sit on my Seals Stadium cushion. I had to politely ask to to not sit on it (lest it "explode" its filling). :p

I was hoping the Shibe Seats were circa 1909 because the picture didn't show a side view. They were actually correct in stating they were circa 1930. Sean Walsh at Old Stadium Seats told me they were either put in in 1927 or 1934. But still pretty cool since they witnessed Some of Jimmie Foxx's HRs, Ted Williams .406 season ending game and Babe Ruth's last game. (among other things)

I am in the process of restoring a Crosley Field seat. This seat is the older style that were taken to the fairgrounds after 1970 and painted gray. My question for the experts is what was the original color of these seats. My research has shown people tend to restore them two different ways. The more popular way seems to be a forest green color while some restore them to more of a lighter green more closer to a teal color. I am in the sanding process and I can see this light green color all throughout the wood so that is the direction I am leaning. Any information from you experts or Reds fans who were blessed with being able to see Crosley first hand is greatly appreciated not only for my restoration but also my knowledge of the field.

I repainted mine in dark green. I think this was the last color at Crosley. Got Rose to sign it.

I also have one of the Crosley seats taken out in 1970 and painted gray. I'm assuming those were the original seats from day one of Crosley. I'm considering repainting it to it's original color but I'm not sure what color that would have been, red I assume. I'm curious if any original paint is beneath the gray. If I could get strip down to it's original patina, that would be great.

Here is my seat from Milwaukee County Stadium. I really like the wear and tear of years of use. I count 3 paint jobs. Original dark green, then light teal, and the top coat of medium green. The seat numbers were stamped into the wood slats instead of being painted on.
When the stadium was torn down in 2001, the Brewers presold seats and the #4(Molitor) and#19(Yount) were the first to go and have always been at a premium. I didn't get one at that time.
Fast forward 15 years. A buddy of mine had a coworker abruptly leave his company and left the seat in my pal's office. He didn't have the room for it, so he thought of me. Sometimes stuff just finds you

Wondering if the experts could offer any help here! I picked up this Connie Mack set a while back and was trying to add a few things to go with it for display. Anyone have any idea as to a timeframe for this style of seat and the grey/green paint scheme? I'd always assumed the Red Ribbon style were the originals and these came in sometime after, especially since this style of seat seems to match the same ones put in at Wrigley, Comiskey, Milwaukee, etc. in the 40s & 50s, but every color photo I've seen from the 60s shows the seats being red again, so had a hard time figuring on the grey. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Ryan
