Hey guys so im slowly putting together the 34 goudey set and i like to maybe try picking some of the 38 goudeys while i build the 34 set. Has anyone here completed the set or have any tips on this set. Looking for a low graded set all psa preferably. I know there are some big names in this set but just a cool set to maybe put together. Any help be appreciated

I'm also collecting the set. PSA/SGC 2-3 commons can be had for $50 - $80 with no problem. I'd say start with the cheaper cards and build up to the Dimaggio / Feller. Great set and best of luck.

A quick search in this forum turned up this thread (and I quit looking after this but there are most likely more good threads, not only buying and selling)

I finished the set in 4-6 a little while back (Both Rudy York's 7 and one Joe D a 2). I found the Vosmik card to be on the tougher side but overall pretty equal. Despite people telling me the high numbers were tougher I didn't see much a discrepancy between the lows and highs. Good luck it's a great looking set that's very doable.

I was heavy into the '38 Goudey set for about ten years, completed it a number of different times and ways. It's my favorite set.

I don't think you'll have any issues related to scarcity in the lower grades. In the higher grades, the LOWER numbers are actually tougher (despite what hobby lore says).

If you're trying to put together a "master" set, the #246 Lombardi variation (the one depicting him with the Reds, without the black baseball) is tough in any grade.

Aside from that, you'll just have to deal with the expensive DiMaggios and the #288 Feller, which is a very popular card.

Good luck, it's a great, great set.

thanks guys with some pointers. I hope to slowly but piece together a low grade set. One of my favorite sets I have ever seen for sure.

This set is one of my favorites aside from T206s. I had some key high grades (Feller, DiMaggio, etc..) a long time ago, and I really regret selling them....
