There's been some discussion on the PSA forum that Don Spence has retired all of his sets on the PSA Registry: Link (http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=898246). Anyone know if he is selling off his collection, a la the Dreiers, and if so, is there an auction house that has been commissioned to execute the sale?

I sold him some cards as recent as about a year or so ago so why would he sell now?

I quickly glanced through the thread linked from the PSA forum and read in just the 2nd post... that they seriously have a luncheon and pass out registry awards?!? Talk about self-aggrandizing.

Note that according to a recent thread on the PSA forum, most of the Spence collection has been purchased by the Tull collection: Link (http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=906103). A recent article on Tull from the SCD is here: Link (http://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com/report-film-company-ceo-was-buyer-of-mazeroski-jersey-bat/)

From SCD:
Tull, whose net worth has been estimated at more than $500 million, paid $632,500 for the Mazeroski uniform and $322,000 for the bronzed bat.

The bat is bronzed? Ouch!

What's so bad about the PSA luncheon? My buddy and I have attended it the last four years; the food's always good and there are usually freebies (T206 book, Cracker Jack book, Cracker Jack Ruth card, etc.) Plus, there are some very prominent members of this board who have world-class collections on the registry who have received rewards (not me) and I think it's great.

My worry is that how will a card company be able to cut it into pieces and stick it on a card. All that metal weight and all:confused:

That reminds me of the joke about the blonde olympian who cherished her gold metal so much she had it bronzed.

Great collection of what seems to be a great guy. However, is it the "best" collection? It wouldn't be my first choice if I got dibs on one collection and one collection only. But to each their own......

Hey, I'm just happy the guy has set down roots in Pittsburgh and has kept Mazeroski's uniform and bat.
