Ok I won the auction that was labeled as "
Exhibits Color Proof Bob Feller 1950's Card. RARE!"

Was not real sure what I was going to get, at the time I felt it might be a promo print they used on the machine displays. Those are paper thin prints of the actual cards, printing quality same as the cards.

I have received it and just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas on it. Its paper thin as I thought but paper is different than the display pieces that I have. Its glossy on the back and it does not feel like normal paper, maybe a silk type, not sure. Then I noticed that the printing is different than the card in that it has no team name or letter on his cap. It also has darker printing dots when looked at real close so the clarity is a little different than the card, although the paper might be affecting that too. Not sure when it was printed but I dont think its any kind of recent print.

Here are some scans-

Did you check to see if the print quality matches the print quality of a card? If so, if it isn't a 2nd generation print, then you may have something there. The company's designers did make paper prints for quality review during the design process. You might have a cut from one of them. Here is an example from the 1948 Champions set:

I also picked up this Mays that we couldn't figure out either. It was labeled a 1952 proof but was printed on thin card stock different than the regular issue stock:

The team logos would be removed for licensing purposes. I don't think that it makes sense to do that for a proof that is going to be reviewed for inclusion in the actual set which does contain the team logos.

More likely to me a knock-off or something not related to the actual set and production of it. Possibly, something used to advertise for the set but licensing rights to use the team logos were not obtained by the "advertiser".

Scott et. al:

I have the Slaughter and Mize proofs from the same source as the Feller. I am flummoxed as well.
