JSA Ruth - I don't get it

How does JSA put 1946 for the "ERA", yet penned in Ruth's hand on the ball is 1947.

Should the "ERA" then be 1947 as well. How do they get something so blatantly wrong or am I missing something?

Pretty sure "Era" is referring to when the ball was manufactured, not anything to do with the sig.
