We've lost Merlin and now Deacon.

And Lamar Lundy. Rosey Grier is the only one left.

In the early '70's, when I was a kid and we were playing neighborhood ball in Temple City, CA, if I was on defense I was always either Butkus or the Deacon. There were no other defensive players in my universe. RIP Deacon. You will be missed.

I heard an interview with Deacon about 15 years ago on WFAN in NewYork. The interviewer was telling Deacon that Lawrence Taylor was the best defensive player in NFL history.
Deacon cut him off and said: No, Dick Butkus was the best, and I know because I was the second best. :D
