... here's a 1905 Vaughn Street Park, Portland Beavers baseball game action photo. I know of no earlier game action image of professional baseball in Portland. The 1905 date is easily ascribed because of the buildings with flags atop them that were built adjacent to the baseball grounds for the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition that ran from June through mid-October, 1905. neat. Wonder how hard it was to call balls/strikes at an angle behind the mound?

Good question. Here's another very early photo from that same ball park. Note the position of the umpire.
