I found a new way to win cards on ebay tonight. Instead of bidding $163.50 for a 1914 Coupon card, you leave out the decimal point and bid $16350 . When you discover your mistake less than an hour before the card goes off and ebay won't let you retract your bid (mistake), you pray like hell someone doesn't get funny and bid 5 grand on the card! Any way, I paid a little more than I wanted to but it's a nice card especially in this condition and my blood pressure is back down :o

Been there, done that. Bid $47000 on a baseball glove for my son one time. Kind of a bad feeling when you realize what you have done. I won it though :)

The first time I let my girlfriend use my ebay account she bid $1200 for a pair of shoes. Luckily the seller understood and allowed me to cancel.
And yes, I know how bad that sounds with that Joey Farino thread going on concurrently. :o

Tbob, that really is a nice card, even though you went a little over budget.

$1200 is about right for a nice pair of shoes, just ask my wife. :D

She collects shoes and handbags, like I collect cards. I think it is a fair trade.

Are Jimmy Choo's the Ty Cobb's of the shoe collecting community?

The girlfriend always uses my card collecting to justify another Louis Vuitton. I hope she isn't going for the entire set. :D

Are Jimmy Choo's the Ty Cobb's of the shoe collecting community?

She hears me say names like Ty, Honus, Christy, Babe and so on.

And I am all too familiar with her names: Jimmy, Chanel, Christian (Louboutin), and Manolo (Blahnik) (damn that Sex and the City). Her personal email address is Manologirl67, so that kind of tells you about her passion for shoes.

and Manolo (Blahnik) (damn that Sex and the City).

Yeah Frank, that show cost me a lot of $$$ (even up to today) as she goes shopping for Blahnik's and Jimmy Choo, et al and dresses. Heck, I even had to build a closet in my house similar to the one she had in the apartment she and Mr. Big bought together (not that I watched any of those shows :D)

Very nice card, Bob. Great grab. Now I know what you mean when you say that you are going to go into your "Chicago money".

What happens if 2 people decide to do that and one of them wins a card worth a few hundred and their winning bid is now forty thousand????

That happened to me, but luckily on a cheap-o item, something worth about 3 bucks, i figured let me make sure i get it so i bid twenty-five bucks, and someone else did the same thing. I won it, but had to pay about twenty-three bucks for a three dollar item.

I've done the same thing once---ONCE---since then I watch every move I make. I hated the tachycardia too much to let it repeat!!!
beautiful acquisition, bob.
all the best,
