Would love to own this card looks great for the grade!!! What price do you think it will sell for I am guessing 50 000$.

I saw it was at $32.5K this morning when I checked. I think yours is a fair guess, but actually think it will go higher. It's a beautiful card on the front. I'd love to have it but don't know what I'd give up to get it. I will guess $70K before the juice.

Yeah, I basically blew it. Bet everything on making a run at this Legendary example and my max bid got torched before I could even put it in.

So much for an SGC 10/PSA 1 being worth 15k. Man do I feel like an idiot for not landing one when I could have. I am beginning to think that every time I look at any of my cards from now on, I'm going to be reminded of this epic fail. I suppose that's a good argument for selling off, actually.

Adrian,

Didn't you say the card wasn't worth more than $10K in a PSA1, and someone you know offered you 2 of them?? I could be wrong as I'm getting old, but I thought you posted that in another thread.

I also said afterwards that the seller (One Leon's good friends and well know dealer) told me (I later called him back to ask him if he was serious about a value of under 15k) he made a mistake and that he said they are now in 2013 worth 25k to 40k...he had not handled one for a few years hence his mistake. Please see the thread where I did correct myself.

PSA 1 can mean almost anything. Ruth's whole face could be paperloss or it could look EX in the front like this one. I could see huge price discrepancies. If someone offered Adrian one for that price, I'm guessing it's hard on the eyes.

Meh, life goes on and you still have some kick ass cards or a big chunk of change, either way. Things could be worse, and you could be a bigger idiot.

And the card in Legendary is not, as already mentioned, your typical "poor" card. We're seeing more and more in this hobby that collectors are paying for the card, and not necessarily the number on the flip (see Goudey Lajoies in REA as well as the T3 Cobbs).

Agreed. 1's and 2's are the diciest grades. They could be beat to hell or have mint fronts with a big penis drawn on the back.

I had a t206 shaugnessy once that had a swastika drawn on the back...I hated it!!!!! It's around here somewhere!!

I still don't understand why this PSA 4 Ruth sold for "only" 45K before BP in the just closed REA auction (Link (http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/bidplace.aspx?itemid=24916)), and the PSA 1 in Legendary is currently at 42K before BP. Sure the PSA 4 one had staining on back, and isn't centered as well, but the PSA 1 has paper loss and other residue on the back. This PSA 4 Ruth, btw, was the same one that was available on ebay a little over a year ago for $25K BIN, and was scooped up by Tony Etrade, where it has been resold a couple of times since. BTW, the wretched SGC Authentic one that sold in Goodwin for ~9500 was my consignment, so perhaps I should be having some sellers remorse there. However, a nice looking SGC Authentic from the Oct 2012 Heritage auction sold for a little over $14K including BP (Link (http://sports.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7065&lotNo=80172)), downgraded to Authentic since it was sheet cut. I still think with some patience, PSA 1 with poor eye appeal should land around $15K, and one with better eye appeal around $20K, but who knows. Maybe the boat has sailed already.

A PSA 1 with eye appeal will never again sell for 20k, in my opinion. No one who owns one and has seen the REA 10 that just went for around 35k will sell theirs for less than 30k.

This Legendary SGC 10 example is likely the best "1" in the hobby, and presents like a much, much higher grade. The front is stunning, clean, centered. Discerning eyes are seeing this in the card and bidding accordingly. Equivalent eye appeal in a higher-graded card would cost like 80 grand.

Bottom line, this Legendary example hits the eye WAY better than the terribly OC PSA 4 from REA. Centering can really turn people off regardless of the grade or turn people on despite a low grade.

Some here seem to think that what goes up...cannot come down! Take a look at some recent(last 5-8 yrs) trends in vintage card collecting and you will see that this is just nowhere near true!

I think there are a few collectors doing Ruth rookie (M101-4/5) back runs....that could account for pricing anomalies between grades...

I just dont see a ruth 10/1 in the 10/15k range again, slight chance for 25k-30k if you ask me. On the REA F&B 10/1 that just sold for 35k, it sold twice in the last year for 40K so they do go down I just don't see them dropping by half unless we have another financial crisis.

while I agree that ruth rookie's have reached new heights of value the last few years...and well deserved...isn't it just a matter of time before another self induced financial crisis occurs?

Possibly, but a bad economy is no guarantee that owners of eye appealing RCs of the game's greatest player will start selling them-- let alone for bargain prices.

I'd imagine that to most collectors, if a Ruth RC is in your collection, it is a most treasured item and not one parted with easily or readily. If I owned one as beautiful as say the Legendary example, the sky could fall and I wouldn't sell it. Probably not even for a little profit.

then again...had I purchased a nice ruth rookie a few years ago...the prospect of 20-40K profit...is very tempting...prized card or not!!!!!

Wish I got one years ago when I had the chance. Was too into a Registry Set at the time (idiot that I am).

When it comes to eye appealing poor-grade Babe Ruth RCs at less than 30k, as Austin Powers might say..

That train has sailed.

Even in Orlando's rather nice coffee table book on the top 250 cards in the hobby, he has the undisputed RC of Ruth as #3. Just an indicator of the stature (and well deserved I agree) this card has now gained.

Up to 47 500$ and almost 3 hours left to go on the auction.
