Just finished reading a new book, "Heart of a Tiger" by Ty Cobb's grandson, Hershel Cobb. It is basically the story of his abusive early childhood with a sadistic father and alcoholic mother and how his relationship with his "granddaddy" saved him. He and his siblings spent several weeks with him every summer at his home on Lake Tahoe. Not a lot of baseball content but it does give a glimpse into a different side of Cobb's personality. There is also mention of young Hershel's meeting Al Stump at granddaddy's house. Stump was caught trying to steal memorabilia from Ty but Cobb wanted his book done, he was sick and felt that he didn't have enough time left to find another writer. Interesting considering what we now know about Stump.

Hi. I knew/worked with Cobbs granddaughter years ago in Detroit. I asked her if she had any of his baseball cards.......she said the only thing he left her was Coca Cola stock.:D Dave

He must have had a huge amount of stock. There is a story in the book about Hershel finding a check for $83K on the dining room table. Cobb explained stocks and dividends to him and told him that he got a similar check every three months. Over $300K in dividends and that was in the early fifties.
