I know nothing about his auto and being that he used fairly standard cursive I would think it would be easily forged and undetectable to an untrained eye. I only have this one pic for now. Good? Terrible? Inconclusive?

Supposedly from Gene Mauchs personal collection.

Is that Campanella under Robinson? Picture is almost impossible to tell but I would lean toward authentic.

I have seen this ball around on the market for at least a year now, for what it's worth. It's really hard to tell from the photo abouts the signatures themselves. I am pretty sure it has changed hands a couple times, or if not actually changing hands then the sales did not complete. If you are looking for a good Jackie autograph, I have a nice fifties all star game ball with him on it and about ten other hall of famers. Shoot me a PM if interested.

Any other thoughts from some Jackie Robinson experts (or at least some with more credibility than I?)? J seems a little fat to me compared to some others I have seen, but it seems as though many I have seen tend to be considered no good so I just don't know.

I don't love it... it's so sloppy, that it would be hard to deem authentic. I would hold out for a better example, if you have the means to do so. Jackie isn't all that rare, and someday, you'd want to upgrade it, anyway.

Then you'd have the burden of trying to sell this one. Always best to hold out for the nicest you can afford.

That ball looks like it has been played in the sand lot.

Cott - If you are thinking of buying it, don't unless it is a matter of cost.
Hard to tell from the picture if it is good or not but Jackie is not a tough autograph to find, on a ball or a flat. You can definitely find a better example than this one.

Thanks for all the help guys, he is only asking $250, but as some of you pointed out, it would probably be better to wait until something nicer comes along.

Minus the saliva, maybe it's from the same house in the movie sandlot that had the Ruth ball being guarded by that mean looking dog.

Just saw that movie for the first time with my daughter last weekend at a fan sleepover at Rangets Ballpark.
