Just saw this yesterday and I'm curious what others think.

It was very enjoyable, but disappointing - I think they could have done more with it. The flow reminded me of "The Natural", only it wasn't as tight of a movie. It really didn't have an ending - I was stunned and disappointed when I realized they were going to just stop it at the end of his first season. Still, it was enjoyable and I'll probably go see it again.

Thanks Jake. See - there's proof that I don't read every thread in the main forum!

yeah, i thought that too. It should have portrayed jackie in his later years like when he won the mvp and stole home in the 55 series. I was shocked when it stopped there. Also it seemed every at bat he had he homered. Did he really hit homers in these situations or did hollywood just add a bunch of dramatic fluff. As far as i know jackie wasnt the biggest home run hitter.

Yeah, I guess I wanted it to pull together all the great stuff I had heard about him, into one spot, done realistically. That's not what happened, and I felt the same way about the home runs - he might very well have hit HR's in the exact situations they showed in the movie, but what about all the other stuff he did?

Oh well. At least they left plenty of room for a sequel :)

I saw it this past Saturday and enjoyed it a lot. I thought all three main actors were excellent, and I felt it was a good story well told. Sure, it ended in 1947, but it was already well past the two hour mark so I don't think it needed to be any longer. There were some flaws, like with any film, but it certainly painted an accurate picture of the times, with a good eye for detail. I really thought it was well done, even if not perfect.
