The one that was graded a 5. Good deal or bad deal? I think the buyer did well at that price.

Weren't people picking it to go higher. Closer to around 3 million.

I wonder what the one graded a 8 would sell for now my guess over 4$ million dollars. But the current owner probably will not sell it for a long long time he has a LOT of money (MLB Owner of the Arizona Diamondbacks).

It would be nice to see this one one day donated to the baseball hall of fame.

That card is not selling anywhere close to $4 million. I'm not sure it sells for more than what the last buyer paid for it.

Still think the Baltimore News Babe Ruth is much more important than the Wagner but that is me (With less than 10 known and the whole world knows Babe Ruth). And Babe Ruth's story is way way more fun to read...the guy was poor as dust and had to overcome HUGE obstacles in his life!!!

Wagner was one hell of a player but just not a fun guy like Ruth and Ruth had 714 Home Runs that is much more impressive for that period in baseball.

2 mill sounds like a good price for the buyer, i would think they expected more, i guessed 3.2 million.

I agree with calvindog. I think this card would go for around the same price it last sold for if sold again, especially since it's now a known fact that the card is trimmed. Still a beautiful card though.

Totally agree!

Now that the whole world knows it's trimmed, why not put it in a PSA Authentic Trimmed holder (Said NO ONE ever :D)

What exactly is the proof that it is trimmed? Is there an article somewhere that describes how it was trimmed and proof that it is? I saw the ESPN video but it still seems to leave the possibility out there.

Jeff,

Enjoy the read. :D Go about 2/3 of the way through the article (however, anyone in the hobby long enough can tell you about the card)

I suggest you take the 4 minutes to review the about video segment from Bloomberg yesterday.

In case you missed this, on the WAGNER and others.
We are very happy to have broken the record by $500,000 for a trading card at public sale or auction. It is the highest price ever achieved for a trading card at public sale or auction, only the prior sale of the 'Gretzky Wagner' (which was a private sale) was higher.

When the initial press release came out about a record, we were referring to the 1.62 million previous auction record, which was beaten by $500K. Some ran with the 2.87 # instead...but we and all involved are thrilled. I will tell you for all the comments regarding the hobby and this card, virtually ALL the support for the card including the winning bidder were from individuals outside the hobby who were fascinated with the news stories, tv appearances and uniqueness of this item....but the answer is, no one gained a Wagner for their T206 collection. I am sure it is the ONLY T206 the winner owns.

Trust me, Wags had QUITE a bit of power and had he, Cobb, Jackson and Nap played almost their entire careers in the "live ball" era like Ruth, they too would have had WAAAAYYY more home runs than what they had. And vice versa for Ruth had he played mostly in the dead/spitball ball era with NASTY pitchers like WJ, CM, Walsh, Plank, CY, Mordecai, Chief etc. he wouldn't have ended his career anywhere near 714.

Great clip Ken.

That reason Wagner didnt want to be on the card dosnt totally fly with me, he had previously appeared in advertisements for many tobacco products, including a cigar baseball trading card in 1899 and a newspaper ad for Murad cigarettes. He also Chewed tobacco.

Not that it really matters why, but would interesting to find out.

I'm starting to think that Zone91 is a prank.

Zone91

Why would you say that? I am not a prank please do not tarnish my reputation. I have been collecting for 20 years just not cards dated before 1952 hence all my topics here.

Here is a bit about me:

I had a average of B+ (GPA of 7 out of 10) so about 80% to 84% in university. In college I finished with 96% and with high honors and with the prize for best coop program student in the field.

All this without any parents just raised by my older brother (3 years older than me) both died when I was a kid. They left us their house and we took care of it and worked hard and went to school at the same time I was a janitor from 15 to 21 every nigh of the week....until I completed college. My brother would come to the parent teacher meetings and all that kind of stuff we would go grocery shopping together me been 12 and him almost 16. He is very smart and very mature. He completed university with a ''A'' average in computer science....also has his masters he would have done a doctors degree but life calls for making money (a PHD takes 5 years full time sure you get paid as a teachers assistant but that is not a career).

I was a orphan basically (spent 95% of my time in hospitals with and for my parents) and so was my brother oh we had are 2 grandparents but that is it in this world. No one intervened because my brother was so mature for his age he could take care of all the adult issues at a very young age so no one made any complaints to any authorities.

Does this sound like a prank sir???

Zone 91,

While realizing that I am a relatively new member of this board, I still feel compelled to weigh in here.

Please understand that there is a certain “rite of passage” involved with this group. The majority of the veteran members here have been involved with the hobby for years, if not decades. And they have been interacting for a long, long time.

As such, they have formed a bond with one another. This occasionally manifests itself in the form of sarcasm...a medium I am well-versed in; however, will refrain from using in this post.

The point I am trying to make is this...you may want to dial things down a notch when directly addressing board members such as Frank, Paul and Scott. While they might take your frontal assaults with a measure of politeness, not everyone here will be so kind.

Good luck and happy collecting.

Best Regards,

Eric Perry

I am trying to I guess I will try harder....appreciate your input. I never really wanted to insult anyone just wanted to discuss cards but some times things get out of hand.

What I do not find not OK is that they can simply ignore my topics and let those who want to participate just simply participate it is like in high school a clic deciding who can say what and when sounds a bit like a country like say Iran (Tyrant nation built on intimidation). There are lots of people responding to my topics (and even more who write to me in private because they are scared I will not mention names because they will also get blasted by the so called ''ELITE'' here) and only a hand full felling I am taking to much space and stepping on ''their'' territory it kind of sucks wish they would just not look at my topics and let others enjoy them....and let me get the answers I am looking for while having fun with those who want to talk. This should NOT be a site only for veterans playing the BOSS for rookies....if it is that way that is very sad in nations like ours....Canada/U.S.A!!!

And Leon said I can write as many topics as I want as long as they are about this hobby....and he is the REAL boss here not the so called ''ELITE'' here trying to get rid of members who don't walk behind them with there heads down like spineless humans.

Frank, we all know the trickery you are constantly up to. But I too have just learned about Zone 91, and in the future will stay out of there unless I have 'appropriate business' to do (and I really can't imagine that ever happening). I suspect, Frank, that you will try to get in again, just to see if you can trick Captain Torelli.

Regarding the comparisons between the Ruth Baltimore News and the T206 Wagner, I give the Wagner the nod for the following reasons:

1. It's a card of him as a major leaguer - Ruth is a minor leaguer in the Balt. News.
2. The T206 card is more attractive
3. The card comes from a larger, more popular set, more attractive set
4. The Wagner card was rare, tough to obtain and desirable, even at the time it was created.
5. The Wagner represents a fraction of the entire T206 population. Not sure about the Baltimore News Ruth
