I thought this was a neat item from my favorite baseball player of all time so I picked it up. I liked it because it showed his fighting spirit, as well as deep emotion, when he writes, "I am going to ward off with God's help the "bow out" or final curtain as long as possible." Even the great Ty Cobb showed his mortality.

Great Ty Cobb item ! Hopefully helps to debunk the lies regarding Cobb and his personality , perpetuated by hack biographer Al Stump, and also the interview in "Glory of Their Times" of team mate Sam Crawford who personally didn't like the "Georgia Peach"
Almost all of the people I've ever spoken to that knew him personally had nothing but praise for him both as a player and person

He sounds like a good guy in his letters but isn't it true only a few ball players attended his funeral?

Just read that this is a myth too. He had a private family funeral and representatives from Major League baseball and the Tigers did attend. I read a few other personal accounts online too. He really does seem like a nice guy.

As I have said before, Cobb was a genuine enigma.

His "reputation" on and off the field do not resonate in his letters that I have read. I'm always amazed at the stark contrast between the two...

I have never seen a Musial signature like that...I don't know if it's authentic...looks nothing like his signature IMHO...

For comparison, here is my 49 Musial. It was signed around the time the card was produced. I've owned it for over 25yrs.

I've seen several very early musials that look just like that 49. Most on gpc and in scrapbook/team albums.

Send me a price.....I'm very interested.

Picked via a transaction with Net53 member "Rob D." Excited to finally add one to my collection. So far in 2013, I already have been able to pick up my Top 3 items from my want lists.

BEAUTIFUL Drysdale, packs. That signature is clean and perfectly placed. That's what I call aesthetically pleasing!

I spied this one while browsing the web (too much time on my hands burning a couple vacation days) and decided I would pick it up.

Cancelled check of W. F. Cody, better known as Buffalo Bill.

Totally doesn't fit my collection, LOL, but occasionally you just gotta satisfy a whim. Relatively tough piece, I haven't seen but a couple of these over the years.

I picked this cool item up from Lew Lipset's auction... It's a champagne bottle signed by the 1912 Yale Baseball team. I haven't been able to research it yet to see if any future big leaguers signed it, but thought it was a neat item!

Nice pick up....it will be a good research project and you can keep your eyes open from here on for 1912 Yale BB related items...A team photo would be a good start...I get the impression your bottle would have been from a dinner held after the game...Maybe there is a menu out there...below a Yale News photo I found...Congrats nice pick up!

That's a cool champagne bottle. Here's my most recent pickup
Check signed by former President James A. Garfield (not signed as President) Here's the auction description:

House of Representatives check, 8.25 x 3.25, filled out in another hand and signed by Garfield, “J. A. Garfield,” payable to F & G Rives for $224.82, July 2, 1877. Garfield has also handwritten, “Mentor O.,” and also added the date. Two vertical folds, one through a single letter of signature, a small cancellation cut to center, and a bank stamp to upper portion, otherwise fine condition.

Small signed photo of Octavio Diaz. He was a goalie on the Argentine team that won a silver medal in football (soccer) at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam. This photo was signed during the 1926 South American Championships in Santiago, Chile.

Real photo post card signed on the back by Julio Nicolari. A boxer, he was a member of the first team from Uruguay to compete in the Olympics, 1924 in Paris. He was the first Uruguayan boxer to win an Olympic bout. He was twice South American Champ and also fought professionally.

Found in my late uncles' possessions. He was assigned to be uniformed security for many entertainers who performed at the Spectrum in the early to mid '70s. Frank remembered my uncle and requested he be his personal bodyguard during a bunch of shows in Cherry Hill, NJ. in 1977.

Michael - that's great stuff. Did you see the soccer ball that was used in the championship match of the 1928 Olympics? I wanted it badly, but just couldn't justify spending that much money on anything, even though I honestly feel like it's a $15,000+ item.

The Yale team was 18-11-2 that season. You had mentioned it might be from the team banquet, but there's one other possibility that came up while I was researching. They defeated Holy Cross on 4/24/12 to claim their 700th win in school history! That'd be neat if it was in celebration of this particular feat.

Just got back from Mr. Kaline. His TTM signature (with donation is not the best) but still a lot cheaper than if he did an apperance. He "forgot" to put the card back in the hard sleeve so I am a little lucky that it did not get bent in the mail.
