This was definitely a cool piece, and I had my eye on it, but wow who would pay that much for these?

No freakin kidding. I bid $600. That was my max.

Good grief! And I have to fight to get $200 for 1 of those balls. Which I guess makes that a $4k box. I admit, I've never seen the 12-count box for these mini-balls (nice to know how they were packaged now), but I agree that price seems over-the-top. No doubt the seller danced a little jig when the hammer came down!

Yeah I was capped around $700, and the only reason I was even thinking that high was because it was a complete full box, and would look neat.

There's a big misconception of what these baseballs are...Salesman samples, come on, miniature versions of refrigerators sure, but a ball only slightly smaller, no way. Novelty or souvenir, possibility, but what these baseballs really were: infield training baseballs! smaller versions to train infielders for grounders. They still use them today.

Lance, start collecting, get a dozen and find a box!

This has got "future forging" written all over it

I can see why people would assume that, but it will not be the case in this scenario. The buyer is a well-respected, high-end collector with a ridiculous collection. The exorbanent price was simply two eager bidders placing high snipes. I can guarantee that these balls will not hit the market for decades as nothing leaves his collection, I've tried, repeatedly! :)
