My wife is about to graduate from grad school and her job is in New Orleans. We love the city but don't know much about the good and bad places to live. I would appreciate any advice you guys have on:

(1) good/bad parts of town
(2) if you are renting or know anyone renting in the area
(3) any information you have about NOLA that may be helpful

THANKS!

For my money, I would live north of the lake in Mandeville or up that way.

I would agree... Go North young man!

I lived there 31 years ago, about 18 months of fun, but almost everyday thought that its a better place to visit than it is to live.
I returned two years ago for a conference and had a blast...you know, visiting...

I am no expert due to the long gap in the time since I left, but it seems that the same thing can be said about most bigger cities...stay out of the core areas for your family life, but close enough to enjoy the amazing things that they have in the city. ( The food cannot be beat! )

Good Luck!
Please let us all know how you are once you land and adjust!
Go Saints!

My wife is a medical resident so we need to live in the city.
