View Full Version : Seattle worried about 3rd Center Fielder

I was reading an article today in the Seattle Times - they have Gutierrez in center and Michael Saunders backing him up, but yesterday they played Jason Bay there, just to see if he would make a good 2nd back-up if they chose him rather than Casper Wells.

I couldn't help but wonder how the center fielder for ANY major league team in the 1800's would react if they had gotten a glimpse of baseball's future by reading such an article.

If Jason Bay was my 3rd CF I'd be worried about who my 4th one was.

Bay cant play center. He can only play feft. Scott are you a SEA fan? I think Morse is gonna have an awesome year.

Im not a seattle fan, met fan here, but im pretty into fantasy baseball.:)

Seattle fan here, as they are my "local" team....although they are just my AL favorite, I have been a Phillies fan for 40 years.

I saw Mike Morse at spring training in AZ. This dude is huge!
I think him being able to move around LF, 1B and DH and play almost every day will indeed make for a big year. Kendrys hit a long HR in the game I watched too.
Bay is of no consequence in my mind. They don't need another RH bat, he is a washed up hitter and poor outfielder at that.
Today they signed Endy Chavez who is a great defender but poorly inconsistent hitter.
To keep up with Scott's initial thread topic, he could be the third CF.

I actually think the M's made some good moves this year. They got depth on their roster and while they may not have many all-star types, they have many fewer weaknesses. i'll go to a few games in person and watch my typical 100+ games on Root Sports.

Can't wait for opening day at Safeco. HUGE scoreboard, but my seats are in right field, under the Hit it Here Cafe, don't know if I'll have a good look at it. More concerned about the product on the field.

Morse was a great pickup, good to have him back in the PNW, and welcome back Raul Ibanez. Don't know about our rotation. Lots of potential but the odds of them developing at the same time is a long-shot. At least the M's won't be in the cellar thanks to the Stros joining the West.

As for a third CF, we need it. Guitierrez is prone to freakish injuries. I mean, beaned in the head while diving back to the bag, or an unexplained thyroid condition. Just weird.

Morse will be a great pickup for Seattle fans this year.I was sad to see him go from the Nats for lead off hitter Denard Span.We could have put Bryce Harper there and kept Morse.Best of luck to him and the Mariners.

I don't think Bay will make the team. Casper Wells is too versatile - they have to give him another shot.

They also have a log-jam at 1B, but I like Wedge's approach to the problem: Smoak starts :) I bet they let him play until he goes into one of his normal dives, then he's gone - how many years can you throw good money after bad? Plus, Morales is too good not to get significant AB's.

I will be going to lots of games, as I always do, but will be in Western Colorado during May and June.

If anyone's up for it, we should get tickets for the first home stand - I'll probably show up on the opener and buy a ticket from a scalper, but getting seats in advance for the next few games.
