Rick Kle.in came over the other day and was nice enough to help identify some post war cards for me. We talked about these, and I thought they were early 60s Topps tattoos, but I can't find reference to them? The ones I am speaking of, in the scan, are the clear ones with a blue or red stripe at top and bottom, respectively. Any help will be appreciated...thanks

If you are talking about the tattoos, they are 1971s...Munson didn't have a card until 1970. Tony C only played for the Angles in 1971.

They are pretty uncommon...while they aren't so profound you'd oohh and ahhh about them, I don't recall seeing them often if at all. There are several on ebay and around the web and don't seem that in demand.

First Row, top to bottom...67 Punch Out/64 Tatoo/65 Transfer
Second row, top to bottom...71 Tattoos
Third Row, top to bottom...60 Tattoo pack/64Tatoos

Topps spelled the 60 and 71 product Tattoos, but in 60 spelled it Tatoos.

You can easily search the 60 packs to see who is in them. The gum slides out. Anyone saying they are selling "unsearched" packs is likely fibbing or naive.

The 60 and 64 Tattoos/Tatoos are tough to find in good shape because the 60s ofter are torn when opened and the 64s are on very fragile, very old paper.

All these are in the Standard Catalog, although in the last issue they are alphabetical and not by year

There is on variation to the 64 Tatoo set. Ron Hunt can be found as either a 2B or SS

I have all these sets done, including the 67 Punch Outs....but I do envy Larry's master set :)

Thanks Guys.....it is the '65 Transfers I couldn't find. Yes, they are on very fragile wax type paper. Thanks again....That was fun though. Maybe I will post some more cool stuff and chat about it. The reason I didn't go later in my collecting years is because I am still going crazy, after 17 yrs of addiction, on the pre-war stuff. I do like this stuff too though as it is closer to what I collected as a kid in the later 1960s.....

If you are speaking about the little green pack in the upper right, that says Tattoos on it, unfortunately is is all there is,....just that cut with Mickey Mantle written on the back but not picture. I have seen the full packs but that is just the front cut, unfortunately. And I think this set of cards is a Cardinals Team issue from 1971?, along with another transfer and a Giant...

Hey Leon, it sounds like you 1960 Topps Tattoo is the Mantle autoball:

These really vary substantially as far as what is still left of them. Sometimes you find full packs, sometimes you find the wrap fully intact but no gum, and sometimes you find them trimmed like yours is. If the picture is clean, it still holds a bit of value even though there is not as much left of it as the example I posted (stolen from ebay). I have one or two tattoos in my collection that were cut down from the original wrapper.

Actually, here is the Red Schoendienst card. It looks like a 1971 Cardinals Team Issue like you had suspected.

This site will tell you what year the Cardinal PCs are from.
There is a search function by player/manager/coach last name.
Several players have multiple versions in the same year.

Thanks Jeff...I think I just described them as 1970s.....that pretty much covers it I think.....I have to tell ya, I spend 10x the amount of time listing this post war, raw stuff as I do the graded cards in my era of collecting...LL

It is pretty easy to narrow the 70's ones down due to:

- player selection
- bad hair and facial hair
- double knit uniforms

My guess if they came as a group they are as that "Red" is def a 70's model.

The 1965 transfers were cello and wax pack inserts for 3 of the 7 series,
if my memory serves me right they only came in pack series 3,4 & 5 is a
set of 72, 36 in red stripes and 36 in blue stripes, the Yaz is believed to be the
thougest. i would post pic of the cellos with them but i cant uplode pics lately.
