If anyone here with a reasonable budget want to add a Plank to his collection.....

http://www.legendaryauctions.com/LotDetail.aspx?inventoryid=154364&searchby

For me it is a new exemple since i do not have this pic in my plank gallery..
strange blue color on this card... missing color ?

Impatient to see the final result

I see that T206Resource just added it (as #55) (http://www.t206resource.com/Plank-Gallery.html). This is odd/interesting "new" Plank since it's in an older slab...

it is my conclusion too.. old slab but new card.. probably in a collection since long time...

the blue background is strange... it is a factory missing color ? a color variation ? look like erase mark..

I recall seeing this Plank about 8 or 9 years ago, but I don't recall where. The lightness of the coloring is due to 2 horizontal erasures on either side of Plank's head, and another erasure mark above his head.

The Plank should have been slabbed an "A" because of the erasure marks...right???

It is my opinion too... my Magie have a slight erase mark and it is slabbed 'A' by PSA

It certainly seems like it should have been graded Authentic to me.

I was thinking the same, definitely should be in an A holder now.

Still a great card...one can dream.

On a related note, all the scans of cards in the legendary auction have either too much brightness or too much contrast going on. It's not horrible, but it prevents a bidder from getting an accurate representation of the colors and clarity on a card. I'm tempted to shoot them an email on this, but I'm not really bidding on any cards in their auction.

Hi Nelson: I have a silly question for you. Since you own a Plank, why don't you use that specific card for your icon, instead of the Plank that you're currently using?:) -Sean Costello

LOL. I don t know i didn t think about that question :) I really love the picture of the plank card... it is perhaps why i use this focused image... and not an image of a complete card...

Definitely looks like the card was made to look like Plank had clouds behind him, lol. Somebody took an eraser to the blue on this one. For that reason alone I'd pass....but then again, I'm a little picky. Writing marks are o.k. But somebody taking an eraser to a card is an automatic DQ in my world.

I'm guessing it ends around $18,000-$20,000

The last one that came to market, I guessed pretty high. I really can't rationalize why a collector would pay more than one would for a new Kia. But that's just me. Let's see if it blows by $15K.

Honestly Nelson I'd rather have your Plank even though it's fairly worn down vs. this one that somebody took an eraser to and altered the front of the card. Give me a "well loved" vintage over an altered any day of the week ;)

It's getting interesting, I'm wondering if it's gonna be one of the those with all the action on day one, then taper off with small increments till the end. Well so far my prediction of 18-20K is still hanging on, lol.

16k + fee = arround 19 120 now....

Wow, over $3K just in "fees" (so far).......pure silliness. That 3K+ could buy another big time vintage for your collection. I mean is it that necessary to charge damn near 20% in fees for these AHs?? I think 10-15% should be more than enough. Honestly those fees are what keep me from bidding in major auction houses. Even If I really want a particular card bad enough, I'd still wait (no matter how long it took) until I found what I wanted outside of a major AH.

I also avoided auction houses for that very reason, Glenn, but the trick is to adjust your bid accordingly. So, if you're bidding on a card for which you'd typically pay $1500 max, your auction house bid would actually max out at $1250 (adding the BP tops it out at $1500 total). Everyone else should be adjusting their bids as well, so it will work out.

True, but for many people their heart overrides their head when it's somethimg they just gotta have and they go past their "ceiling" and into the sky where things get wide open and out of control in a hurry. I just don't get into the whole "bidding" thing with other people (one exception being Ebay since ive been doing it since 1999). I just don't like attending auction houses or the online major AH thing. Give me somebody who has something for sale and let's start negotiating the good old fashion way. I even do it mostly on Ebay to be honest. I either just BIN or send them a message to start negotiating and it's usually always worked out great for me.

Auction end.

Anyone can explain to me why the card is now disapear from the auction ????
And no final price ??

Final price was $18,000 plus 19.5 percent juice. Right about where you'd expect a lower-end 1 to sell for. In Legendary, Day 1 lots aren't on the site during Day 2. It should be back tomorrow.

Not really. I think it sold for what it should. It's not like low-end Planks in 1 holders routinely sell for $30,000.

To see what the priro session lots closed at, when you click on the auction tab on their website, theri will be a link above the seach field "click for closed sessions."

In case anyone was interested in some final prices.

I got outbid on the Voskamp's Wagner. I'm going to be watching some of the E107 lots tonight. Curious on the final prices.

hey Rob
Yesterday the last time i look at the auction the price was 18 000 with 4 bids on it. You said the ending price was 18K last night....

But if i check on the link of the auction i saw 5 bids was made on the card.... perhaps another last bid you didn t see ?

Rob D.

Given the repeated posts and bumps this thread got leading up to the auction and the fact that a major auction house was the seller, my guess is that if $25,000 is the "correct" price, then that's what it would have sold for.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the selling price was $18,000, plus the juice. I have the card on my watch list and can see the final price. Possibly the high bidder placed another bid, which would have increased the bid total but not the final price.

Damn I came pretty close to nailing it with $18-20. I think it closed right about where it should have for an altered poor example. $17,500 would have been my max bid had I decided to bid on it, so I wouldn't have been too far off what I closed for.
