SIZE MATTERS PART 2 - Show your SMALLEST item!

Given the popularity and great pieces from the "show your largest item" thread I thought that it would be fun to start this thread :D

I'll start with this really neat 1860's-1870's? gemtype (based on shield front jersey). It measures a whopping 0.75" x 1".

Shown at about actual size (may even be smaller), these PM6 pins are smaller than the Sweet Caporal pins and considerably tougher to find.

The Elgin pin is from the 1910 season of the Northern Association Kittens. They were managed by former Chicago Colts catcher Malachi Kittridge. The Maryland pin is from the 1952 year of the Old Timers Baseball Association. While this was the first year I believe they are still active. Both are screw backs.

The head on this Braves 1914 pin measures 1/2" x 5/8", though the long stick pin brings its size up to nearly a whopping 3"!

Those are great pieces everyone! Scott, we'll have to deduct points for the stick portion.:p

At this point, it looks like it's a very close race between the PM6 (awesome piece btw!) and the 1910 Elgin pin with a very slight edge (smaller) to the latter based on overall area.

Any other small pieces out there? This has nothing to do with pride...it's just baseball :D

This Cincinnati enameled pin is 5/16" in diameter, with a small pin clasp on the back side. No manufacturer data...

I bought this pin on eBay about 4 years ago and did not realize how tiny it was until I got it. It measures 3/8 inches across at its widest point and 4/8 inches at its longest point.

Here is a copy and paste of an old post of mine - I think this is the smallest baseball item I have.

Thought I would share this little find... It was kind of neat how it panned out.

I saw this Half Dollar coin with the initials WJR for the 1905 Holyoke Champs of the Connecticut State League. I got on SABR and looked up the 1905 Holyokes and saw only one name that ended with R.... (Butch Rementer)... Well, those initials do not match but then I click on the name and low & behold his full name is Willis J. "Butch" Rementer!

I started searching around and found a 1905 article talking about the Holyoke Champs and the awards that were handed out that day. It mentions that each player received a watch fob... Could this be considered or used as a watch fob??????

Also, the article states that "(Old Frank) Foreman scrambled down on the field with an umbrella which the Holyoke friends of "Butch" Rementer presented." Any idea what that means? For some reason I am not understanding that sentence...?

Butch Rementer is also pictured in the T210-8 Old Mill series, which I think would make a great companion piece!
Edit: Forgot to mention that Rementer played one MLB game for the 1904 Philadelphia Phillies.


Would love to here your thoughts on this and if there are any others known. Any guess on a value for something like this?

Interesting that Holyoke played in the "Connecticut League" since Holyoke is in Mass, Albeit close to CT, just a few miles.

I don't have a clue to value, but know that pieces like that are why Baseball BY FAR has the Richest history of any sport, and the Collectibles that are found are simply great.

ADDICTED to something and poor? Not a good combo;)

I love how you were able to track down the origin of that. Very cool piece! :D

This little 7/8" x 7/8" pin (center, below) has companion pieces from the Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers. I'm guessing 50's but I have seen the original display card and the baseball player on that looks even earlier...maybe 40's.

What is cool to me is that this figure made its way onto a NY Giants pennant and, later, an SF Giants pennant. I love when the "evolution" is clear. Another kinda interesting thing is, when I dug out the SF pennant for this crummy scan :rolleyes:, I noticed the band on the left is a silk-like material and not the usual felt. (P.S. the SF pennant is much better than the scan shows)

Pin and pennant are both from 1951, give or take one year. They actually made these pins for every team, and someone a few years ago posted picture of the pins on original store display easel stand.

Yes.... 1951 is the year, and below are pics of the Bums, Yanks, INDIANS and CUBS... all from the same series of Pins/Pennants. There are definitely more, but I do not have time to search.
