Always appreciate the reminders Leon. With so many auctions going on, I lose focus from time to time....

so when will the auction REALLY end?
Should I plan to just put in my best bid tomorrow morning when I wake up? There should definitely be a hard close at some point...don't you think? Perhaps 2am EST or something?

T206 rare backs are going nuts!
I'm watching one in particular, going through the roof. A few people must be trying to complete a back run.

Another strong rareback auction.
Jake, that one has me puzzled.

I think thats the one that Mike was talking about.....I bet the same senario as the RH's;).....I was watching it also,
but what I was really watching was the T206 MULTI-STRIKE.......I stayed away because I knew I couldn't afford that, and a friend might have wanted that one anyway.....THAT went cheap inmho @ $6500.00.....I truly think that was a 10K card or soon will be;)
BIG CONGRATS TO ALL who won....especially PLANK SCRAP and MULTI STRIKE WINNERS , PLEASE POST !!
You guys got some SUPER RARE cards:D

Insane prices- Drum, Evers Hindu, Multi-Strike, some of those BL 350's and HOF CB's...the list goes on and on. Some serious competition. I jumped off of all of those a long time ago. Congrats to the winners.

I wanted that Cobb e102 so bad, but it hit my max bid around midnight. Of course it didn't go any higher, but I'm going to wonder all day long if I should have hit it one more time.

The highest price ever paid (I am aware of) for a T206 misprint error, multi-strike doesn't seem so high anymore.... :) Congrats to all of the consignors and winners!!

Yes, seems it has. A red Cobb portrait (Auth) with Drum back, in very presentable shape, sold on ebay last year for under 10K.

Exactly Dave, a board member owns that bad boy. Smart pickup.
Leon, it sure doesn't. ;)
The price on the multi strike last night was only $2154 off of the highest ever. Great card last night.....Congrats to the winner.

Am I missing something with the Jim Thorpe M101-5 card in the auction? The same card sold for $44K in 2008, now sells for $13K? Either figure is way, way out of my budget. But living 45 minutes from Jim Thorpe, Pa., and 90 minutes from Carlisle, Pa., I always take an interest in Thorpe cards. That seems like a tremendous price drop, considering that many other premium items seemed to bring strong prices.

Here's another instance where the same card sold for less than last night's finish:

I saw the 2008 REA auction price you quoted, and I don't know how to explain that one. As someone who is actively seeking a nice example of this card - I was turned off by the centering. With that said, it's a great Thorpe card - no matter how you look at it.

If I were looking for one I too would wait for one that is centered a bit better. Still a really great card last night though. As for pricing, there have been several whales that left the hobby in the last 5-10 yrs. Some of those guys would buy a card regardless of price. That is probably what happened with the 44k price. I can show countless examples of other cards that went for a gazillion dollars only to come back down to normal type pricing (if there is such a thing).

Thanks for the additional link. You're right; the Thorpe M101-5 card is a great card, as is the Exhibit card in your avatar.
As always, I am biased but since we are discussing Thorpe cards....my favorite is this one..(pardon the others)

Since I have a t206 Evers Hindu at PSA 4 it was nice to see the PSA 5 set the market for now at $10,100!

...some interesting grades on some of those N172s. An SGC40 with scrapbook paper attached? An SGC 50 with glue stains? A PSA 5mk with photo loss on the front? I do believe the grade should account more for the photo quality, but I also would like to see a level playing field and it seems like every other old judge it graded technically...

Does anyone remember the Goodwin Auction about 4-5 years ago where some whales were going after cards from a D304 set? Examples like Cy Young in a PSA 5 were selling in the 45K range. Today, maybe 3-4K would be a reasonable price. You have to be careful assessing prices when those prices are multiples of any other previous record.

I won the Joe Tinker Old Mill. I usually win the card/s on my bidding card that no one else wants.

I had my finger on the mouse at last night around 1am... Decided not to bid. You got a nice price on that one! :)

Thanks for the nice words, fellas (and thanks to Matthew for not pushing me up!)
For some reason this card "spoke" to me...and it said "Bid!"...lol :D.
Cheers,

Nice pickup.
I was watching this card as well. That pose has to have a story behind it.:)
