Your threads won't generally go "poof" here but you do need to be cognizant of what Net54baseball section is best for your needs. Sometimes threads do get moved. We have a post war section you can utilize just by clicking on the icon that says Postwar Cards, which is at the top of every page. Otherwise welcome to the fray, you are among friends. And you won't get banned unless you repeatedly do things against the rules or go off the deep end and go crazy on us (it happens). Overall we are a very friendly bunch. My main bone with the PSA forums, where I do post a little bit, is that there are too many trolls and ALTs (people with multiple user accounts that don't have to put their name by their trash talk). Otherwise, the PSA forum isn't too bad......I just like it that here, on this forum, people have to take responsibility for what they say.

No, no need for an apology, you are fine and did everything right. I was just mentioning the other areas as that is where your list of hundreds of post war cards/packs would solicit the most responses. It's all good....and if you did post in an incorrect forum a moderator would just move the thread. You wouldn't be banned for something like that unless you did it over and over and over after being asked (many times) not to. The other moderators and I have a lot of patience for most things. Now, if you go berserk and start talking about someone's family or children, you will be out of here faster than lickity-split :). Also, you can always PM me for guidance if you have a question on something concerning the board. Happy collecting!!

Hi Clayton. No correlation at all... No jealousy at the 10's at ALL. I am VERY happy with my 9's!!!! None of what you saw in my collection was self submitted. I could not even imagine having to pay for 10's.

Edit: Well, there is one 10 hidden in my collection. So I guess I don't have to imagine having to pay for a 10. I did pay for one.

Wow! That seems like alot of 10s right there. I don't submit too often but I am assuming the person(s) who submitted those cards must submit all the time and, therefore, must have a very good eye when it comes to assessing cards. That must be it, I suppose.

Exactly! (LOL). Its just ONE very long sequential submission that got many people on the other site upset. I didn't even START the thread on the certs. It also had a spin-off thread poofed and another thread selectively edited by the moderator. I believe there is one thread over there right now with someone asking ME about the list. Unfortunately, do to circumstances not under my control I am unable to reply to him!

I just got banned from one site. I don't want to get banned from this one for giving any opinions. I am out of the opinion giving business. "Just the facts, Sir" and that list is ALL the facts that I have.

If I got banned I do not know HOW the OP could not have been! And other people too! I just posted the list, some funny pictures and possibly added a little accelerant. The moderator actually emailed me and gave me the name of the submitter and lectured me on how much business they do with them. I guess they don't consider the names of submitters or information like that private.

AND... Mattingly was WAY more deserving of being a HOFer then Puckett! Hahahahahaha!! Don't make me post that Sports Illustrated Cover here! (LOL)

As a raw cards guy, I'm not exactly sure what that list is, or what it means. I see that the numbers are sequential, does that mean that you submitted all of those cards to the people who get paid for their opinions, and those are the results you got?

As a submitter to both PSA and SGC for many years, when I first saw the list I was thinking April Fools Day joke, got to be. I have submitted many cards from those years and I am lucky to get ONE 10 every 5-10 cards, just seems impossible and possibly something very wrong. That fact they deleted the threads quickly and started banning makes it worse, cover-up anyone??? Sorry someone getting a sub with 90% 10's and they are all tough very valuable cards from the 1960-70's (we are not talking modern shiny stuff, even then I dont think you could hit that percent of 10's) is total BS.

Then I think of the whole Dmitri Young comment of them looking at his card and then giving it the bump to 10.

On to the whole Art Shell cards bumping at National and all this combined leaves me thinking something is seriously wrong.


How long before this sub pops up for auction with an ebay consignment house..........

I'm still missing something here, I'm not on their board - was the issue questioning all the 10's PSA gave - and to one vendor in particular (4 Sharp Corners or whomever)? Being "lectured" on "how much business they do with them" .. Wow - well, hasn't that been a long-standing perception/issue with PSA for ages? It would seem that (correlating the amount of business given to grades), along with tossing people off their board who would dare question, would only serve to galvanize opinions and accusations :confused:

David, one of the rules of this board is that you can sling mud, make accusations, drive people crazy in arguments, say you hate me or anyone (or company) else, but you have to have your full name in your posts. You can put a period, hyphen or exclamation mark (or anything), in the middle fo your name(s) in order not to show up in searches....but your name needs to be there per the rules. Or you will need to edit your comments out. And yes, just exposing things means you need your name out here. As I said, I think that might be the thing I find most difficult about the PSA board, it is the fact people can say what they want to and hide behind a keyboard while not taking responsibility for it. Otherwise, carry on. Le.on Luc.key :)

No, no need for an apology, you are fine and did everything right. I was just mentioning the other areas as that is where your list of hundreds of post war cards/packs would solicit the most responses. It's all good....and if you did post in an incorrect forum a moderator would just move the thread. You wouldn't be banned for something like that unless you did it over and over and over after being asked (many times) not to. The other moderators and I have a lot of patience for most things. Now, if you go berserk and start talking about someone's family or children, you will be out of here faster than lickity-split :). Also, you can always PM me for guidance if you have a question on something concerning the board. Happy collecting!!

PSA grading is a rigged game where the insiders win and the outsiders lose. Has been since PSA graded card #1 with at least one grader who was involved knowing it was trimmed. This is just a particularly piggish example. At long last, PSA has no decency...

The original poster posted that list, from a very good PSA customers submission, on the PSA board. I guess they were discussing how all of those 10s could happen. PSA didn't like the way the thread was going, for whatever reason, and took the thread down and banned the original poster of our thread. I didn't realize what the list was about at first but then caught on (I am sort of slow) after a while. Hope that helps explain it.

It seems like there have been a few more threads over there today referring to the post I was banned for. People just asking questions. They are being quickly snuffed out and POOFed as fast as they get created. It also looked like someone pushed an old thread pertaining to the submitter to the top. It too has mysteriously vanished.

This board is actually very refreshing! It looks like people can actually express their opinions without fear of banning here. Its like a catharses for me!

I think it's just a matter of time before PSA is destroyed by their lack of integrity. It really seems obvious what is going on, and from the standpoint of those who like engaging in "defensible" fraud, it would be easy ploy to simply be favorable with their authentications for those who they have done enormous business with, since the grades assigned are, after all, only opinions.

Now, their possible malfeasance with regard to some Wagner card is another story.

Once the card has been graded it will be slabbed. The process is supposed to be handled by the graders without knowing who the customer is, so there is no "bias."

Check out this video about the grading process! I just packed up some cards and I will be sending to PSA in the morning. I hope they come back 10's!!

You can submit cards with a "minimum grade requested" which means that PSA will only holder those cards that meet the MG requested (in this case, PSA 10). My understanding is that the cert #s which have no cards next to them are the ones that did not reach the MG requested, because when you submit cards to PSA EVERY card is assigned a cert # whether it grades or gets holdered or not.

If I did the math correctly they have over a 97% 10 rate on that huge submission. Someone mentioned he thought this was an April Fools joke when he saw the list. Well this isn't April. However, there could be plenty of fools, but they aren't at PSA or at the submitter. They are clearly NOT fools.

Yes, according to one of the threads that got zapped, this seller is known for having a good eye and submitting cards with minimum grade requirements of 10. Knowing this, I think we have 3 distinct possibilities, 2 of which concern me as a collector who buys graded cards (the final two). I can't say which scenario is the truth, but all 3 are possible...

1. This seller has a top notch eye for condition and has a huge pool of cards from which to select, and only sends in the best of the best.

2. This submitter gets preferential treatment and higher grades than you or I would get for the same cards.

3. The cards being submitted are being cut from a sheet in a way that PSA can't detect or PSA no longer has the expertise or time to detect and reject. The submitter themselves may not be doing the cutting, and may have no knowledge of it.

These are not accusations -- merely discussing the possibilities. That is an amazing submission result, to say the least!

On 10s this is obvious. The real question is how much of this goes on making 7s into 8s and 8s into 9s. Would be great if Joe Orlando came on and stood up for his company. This is a public company and I would not be surprised if a few Net54 members were CLCT stockholders. I know I have been at times in the past, although not now.

1 and 2 are not mutually exclusive. Given how arbitrary the difference between a 9 and a 10 is, it seems hard to fathom a 97 percent rate of 10's in the ordinary course.

Now that you mention this, I believe I remember seeing a very specific thread about a large submitter on the PSA boards. Numbers 2 and 3 and combinations of 2 and 3 were talked about. I don't recall option 1 being discussed at all other then in jest and a mocking manner. I seem to recall that the thread discussed a large submitter (I don't recall which one) and all the 10s they were getting at the time. A member had somehow linked them with the purchase of laser paper cutters, or something similar, which caused quite a stir. I'd go back and search for it and other related issues in the archives, but I am now banned and PSA poofed the thread I am referring to anyway. Does anyone here, also on PSA recall this?

I took a look at the 1970 Topps population report for PSA 10 graded cards. As of today, there are 1414 PSA 10 graded cards out of a total population of 147485 1970 Topps cards graded by PSA.

I still think this would be an amazing number of crossovers but looking at who the submitter is it is definetly not out of the question these cards could be crossovers? Just a possible theory before we are 100% sure it was nefarious. Of course I still probably could not get that number on crossovers.

I can see how certain submitters have a better eye for grades. But what would the reason be to reject a "9" for these cards? Certainly worth the grading fee as well.

Forgot I wasn't banned form this board.....yet.

For the few that keep defending PSA, this has been going on since they opened. My first PSA ID was banned 7 or 8 years ago for a long winded post about bulk submitters.

Yes it is possible that someone sent in 10-20,000 cards and asked for only 10's to be slabbed. PSA does this all the time and sends back the ungraded cards at little or no charge. I received an order years ago from a bulk submitter who shall remain nameless and they had accidentally slipped in a copy of a lengthy PSA order similar to this one. They even requested that the non-10s be held until they had a certain amount of ungraded cards to be shipped at once. So much for anonymity.

I also do not believe anyone here has mentioned how hard it is to get a 10 on many of these cards and issues. The cached thread that went poof stated that the 74-75 hockey only had 74 PSA 10s ever before this order that had 15 out of 16 submitted receive a 10.

It has come to my attention that, over the weekend, a couple of message board users began posting conspiracy theories about a particular order, questioning PSA’s grading process and so forth.

First, we have warned message board users in the past about posting conspiracy theory-type comments and/or ones that can be construed as unfounded bashing. We will not tolerate that kind of behavior. It is unhealthy for the community and the hobby, not to mention flat out wrong.

Second, in this particular case, a user was complaining about a series of PSA cert numbers on an order and questioning how the entire series was nothing but PSA Gem Mint 10s. The insinuation was that the submitter was getting some sort of preferential treatment on the grades, resulting in the excellent results for the customer.

In other words, in the mind of the conspiracy theorist, there was simply no possible way someone could get an order like that without something fishy going on.

Here’s the deal and it’s very simple. Though rare, some customers choose to only have certain grades encapsulated and processed on large orders. For those who are familiar with the concept, you might think of this as setting a “minimum grade” for the entire order of cards.

As a result, the only cards that actually receive a cert number are the ones that the customer would want in the PSA holder. For example, if someone submitted 1,000 cards but only 213 of the graded PSA Gem Mint 10, all that is visible in the system are the 213 cards that met the minimum grade under this arrangement.

From a cert number standpoint, all you can see are 213 consecutive PSA Gem Mint 10s, but you cannot see the other 787 cards that were evaluated but didn’t make the grade or the cert stage so to speak. That is the customer’s choice, as long as they pay our required fees.

That is why the orders, from a distance, can look the way that they do.

So, once again, for those of you who want to post nonsense on our message boards, you will be removed immediately. If something comes up in the future and a person has a question about anything at PSA, I don’t think it is unreasonable to ask that you contact us so we can simply answer the question.

Most situations like this can be avoided by simply communicating before posting harmful, unfounded lies.

Our message boards were not designed to allow these types of people to act in this manner and we will defend it aggressively.

I agree and you are 100% right, but we all know that's not how it works.....You own a grading company. You have a customer that subs 1000+ cards at a time. It is against the financial interest of your company (a publicly traded company with shareholders, no less) NOT to give him preferential treatment. To put it another way, I work in a restaurant. If we started putting our VIP regulars at the tourist tables by the door, they would stop coming and become a regular somewhere else.

Oh, and your company "sets" thes values of its own cards....if that doesn't define "conflict of interest", I don't know what does. I think maybe I'll write my own price guide that only includes everything I own.

The ?AUTH and other no grades are proof that Joe is full of it with that response. The serial numbers are given out beforehand, and are sequential based on their order before grading, regardless of whether or not they are ultimately slabbed... Luckily we see these all the time on the bay..

So, once again, for those of you who want to post nonsense on our message boards, you will be removed immediately. If something comes up in the future and a person has a question about anything at PSA, I don’t think it is unreasonable to ask that you contact us so we can simply answer the question.

Most situations like this can be avoided by simply communicating before posting harmful, unfounded lies.

Hey don't worry. He's been a busy man. You know, removing cards that didn't meet the minimum grade requirements, and then re-assigning serial numbers. Who'd have known it would be more efficient and cost-effective to serial number an entire submission twice..

I can't explain the 10s better than Joe or anyone else. That being said I think he and PSA do a good job overall. I am sure he looks into issues such as was pointed out with that submission. I don't believe he intentionally does anything wrong though with any large company there can always be an employee not playing by the rules.

It only takes a few of the right cards graded "10" instead of "9" to make someone a millionaire and give the grader some kickback money. This grading situation is just to tempting for graders not to make a lot of money on the side.
Now the labels have what collection they come from "Dmitri Young", etc.

This answer fails to explain why there are cert numbers with no cards listed. I also fail to see the logic in not getting 8's and 9's holdered since the service was already paid for. Hmmmmm......

Joe Orlando is the President of a for-profit company traded on a stock exchange. Or am I wrong? It has been both my misfortune and pleasure to work in a different and dissimilar industry dominated by one company which had both followers and detractors. To expect a company man to do anything but defend company turf and reputation would be unreasonable. To expect a reasoned response from a certain point of view is another. To refer to conspiracy theorists can be called spin. I call it fact spun in a web of company crap. Don't know the man and am now pretty sure I do not want to.

Just my opinion.

Yes, according to one of the threads that got zapped, this seller is known for having a good eye and submitting cards with minimum grade requirements of 10. Knowing this, I think we have 3 distinct possibilities, 2 of which concern me as a collector who buys graded cards (the final two). I can't say which scenario is the truth, but all 3 are possible...

1. This seller has a top notch eye for condition and has a huge pool of cards from which to select, and only sends in the best of the best.

2. This submitter gets preferential treatment and higher grades than you or I would get for the same cards.

3. The cards being submitted are being cut from a sheet in a way that PSA can't detect or PSA no longer has the expertise or time to detect and reject. The submitter themselves may not be doing the cutting, and may have no knowledge of it.

These are not accusations -- merely discussing the possibilities. That is an amazing submission result, to say the least!

Although the 1,000 card order was explained (sortof), the bigger issue was not. What does it mean when a seller on Ebay (who subs their own product to PSA) sells cards in PSA 10 holders and those cards have noticeable flaws that warrant a PSA 8 holder? Should we all turn a blind eye? What about the 2nd or 3rd time we notice it? Should we not ask questions then?

I'd love for anyone at PSA to explain how this happens. And don't try the "the grader must have missed one line". Address the fact that the much of the rumor in the marketplace is around only a small handful of sellers.

This seems to be a common accusation meant to discredit individuals who question questionable things or situations, to call them "conspiracy theorists" or to call something a "conspiracy theory". And to say "these types of people", as though people who question things that don't make sense are some kind of sub-human species, that don't have a right to question something that is going on. I heard a conspiracy theory once that there was a guy who cut and trimmed a Wagner t206 and then convinced a brand new grading company to give it a grade it didn't deserve so he could sell it for a boatload of money.

You know, I collect raw and I am always trying to amass reasons not to slab and the sheer weight never dawned on me. Let's say a collector has 25000 raw cards and 25000 slabs. The raw cards would be a pain to move..The 25000 slabs would be painful to move.:D

This is the thing that drives me nuts about this situation. JO (or one of his minions/employees) should have addressed this publicly as soon as P_P's sub was publicly exposed. Deleting and banning doesn't quell thoughts of conspiracy/cover-up... it pours gallons of kerosene on an already raging fire.

The other thing that has always galled me is the fact that nobody there knows who the moderating team is. It was weeks to months after the fact that everyone became aware the Carol was gone. Now there's a Jackie, but she's got PMs blocked. So if we have a question, who exactly are we supposed to go to? Call JO? Sure, that'll work. The moderating team needs to be public and interactive. I've been on probably a couple dozen message boards over my years on the interwebs, and I've always known who was in charge.

I called him 3 times today. I was told on the 3rd call that he wants in today.

The last 'Named' mod I received an email from was Jackie. My most recent emails have been from an unnamed mod. Rumor going around the PSA boards is that there is a mod who is a member. This rumored mod is supposedly the one who gets things deleted in the middle of the night and on weekends and holidays. The conjecture is this is a well known not universally like member. I am just relaying what is talked about in the shadows on the PSA boards because people are afraid to talk in the open over there. I think you are correct. The lack of transparency over there only leads to background whispering making conjecture the only thing possible.

BUT who is ultimately in charge. Generally, in any business the person responsible for EVERYTHING is the boss and the bosses boss or bosses. Blaming a low level staff member is BUSH! (not that you were blaming anybody for anything)

It was a result of running afoul of a CU member who used to refer to himself as "we" and "us", but has now dropped that nonsense. I could talk long and loud about this particular member, but it serves no purpose here. I do not think this particular member is the moderator, as the followup emails I had with the anonymous CU employee made it clear that they were aware he was sort of a PITA.

Not the best scan, but to be fair, left and right edges both look fairly rough. That card actually looks like a solid 10, not sheet cut, all things considered.

#1 we all would love a truly objective way to quantify a cards' condition, etc. yet this cannot exist and psa like any other co. is an imperfect co. to offer such a service

#2 joe sounds very defensive which indicates he is trying to hide something

#3 card grading can allow one to miss the point of collecting in the first place i.e over-emphasizing condition rather than the subject of the card

I don't know if anything fishy going on with PSA submission (it certainly looks suspicious), but deleting threads and banning folks who wish to discuss the issue speak volumes negatively about the company in my view.

I concur with others in expressing appreciation of Leon and other moderators who allow free discussion of controversial subjects, including at times this Board.

I would think rather than deleting threads, banning folks, and after the fact making a statement that reeks of disrespect, it'd make more sense to leave the thread up and address the issues openly to his board members (and customers). I think the questions sounded legitimate, from what's been posted here.

That would only make sense if you're under the impression that people are buying the card, not the holder. Just think how many more PSA10's you could get graded at the cost of a good scanner.

Not a big secret but we had a group sub on CBT last month. I sent in a card that I know was trimmed. Watched it get trimmed. It's in a PSA 9 holder now. In the same sub, I had two 1971 Topps PSA 8 crackouts that got an EOT.

The trimmed PSA 9 will be on eBay soon with a large disclaimer.

I doubt your buyer will be as honest. Why even put this in the market if you know it is bad? Why send it in if you watched it get trimmed? This is borderline in my eyes.

The point was to list a worthless card at about $250k with an explanation in the listing. Yes I am bitter towards PSA and yes I hold grudges.

Well, Mr. Orlando seems to provide superb customer service. At least to his BIG one's. Small customers like me get publicly called out by him on his message board as trouble makers and conspirators.

And when you make a comment like this "We will not tolerate that kind of behavior. It is unhealthy for the community and the hobby, not to mention flat out wrong." you certainly set yourself up for a HUGE fall should any of those conspiracies ever turns out to be true.

Someone mentioned the Wagner Card. Did PSA know it was trimmed? What was the deal behind that?

Sorry - I am new here. I forget there would be archives on this stuff here. The posts on the other boards get poofed to quickly to find out what the truth is. A more detailed update on my attempt to get my questions answered:

Mr. Orlando wrote this to me and my fellow rabble-rousers on his forums yesterday. "If something comes up in the future and a person has a question about anything at PSA, I don’t think it is unreasonable to ask that you contact us so we can simply answer the question."

I decided to take Mr. Orlando's suggestions. I called his office several times leaving unanswered voice mails. I kept trying and finally got through. Once I identified myself to the person who answers his calls she knew who I was. She then proceeded to ask me if I was calling to be reinstated. Before I could answer her she told me that was not going to happen. I do not know if she was directed to speak to me that way or that is just the way she speaks with customers at time. After being treated that way by the person answering his phone I realized it would be a waste of time to ask Mr. Orlando anything.

I eventually decided that I needed to bring my questions to the top of the company. I then called Mr. Halls's office. Mr. Hall is listed as the Co-Founder, Pres, Chief Operating Officer and Director on the company profile on Yahoo. After identifying myself I was told Mr. Hall was in a meeting. She told me that Mr. Hall would return my call. My call was not returned.

This morning I called Mr. Hall's office again. After I identified myself she remembered me. I must be known in Mr. Halls office now too or they must by psychic mind readers and have some type of crazy Jedi powers over there. She proceeded to tell me she knew what I wanted to discuss with Mr Hall. I hadn't told her the reason for my call at that point. Anyway, I was told Mr. Hall was not in the office but he would be returning my call.

I am sure Mr. Hall is VERY busy. That is VERY understandable. I hope to be able to speak with him soon. I am trying my best to do what Mr. Orlando suggested. "If something comes up in the future and a person has a question about anything at PSA, I don’t think it is unreasonable to ask that you contact us so we can simply answer the question."

What is your goal with these phone conversations? Im not discouraging you from calling, I am just trying to understand what you trying to accomplish?

I just don't want you to end up like my dog that chases squirrels around the yard and every now and then catches one. Clueless what to do at that point.

Also, I wouldn't want you to be disappointed if they tell you everything you want to hear and then nothing changes because this issue is really not affecting their bottom line.

A lot of interesting things going on in this thread. Here are my thoughts:

1. The CU forums, people getting reprimanded & banned

For some I think this happened because you simply need to learn how to behave like an adult, and ideally, like a professional. For others you simply stepped over a line that CU clearly drew in the sand.

2. Grading & many 10s in a row

Joe Orlando made it very clear how this happens and the service offered that allows for it. I agree poofing the thread that asked how this happens was kind of extreme, he should have just replied to it or pinned a thread explaining this circumstance.

3. Pristine Paper & Peter Iskowitz

I started another thread in the Postwar Baseball Cards Forum (Pre-1980) (http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=162447) about this specific topic. I've purchased a good deal of cards from Peter to augment my sets and as such it is strongly in my interest that these cards be legit. My concern is not how PSA grades them, as the service indicated above seems reasonable, and more how Peter obtains these pristine cards, specifically, whether they are sheet-cut.

Some would argue that whether they are sheet-cut or not, if they pass PSA inspection then it's fine. Since the sheets were produced when the original cards were and all ... that said, cutting now has potential to be a lot more accurate then it was back in the 70's and earlier, and part of the (or the whole) point is getting cards that were cut and sealed back then and have survived the travel of time.

At any rate, I've communicated a decent amount with Peter and he seems like a nice guy. That said, has anyone here ever met him, ever seen how he gets his cards raw or unopened ... or perhaps has any proof that he is indeed cutting sheets.

Like I said I don't assume to know either way what's really going on here, but with such impressive results in the nature of PSA 10s, I think it's fair to question the authenticity of the cards, and the method in which they were procured. I'm all for transparency, as it builds confidence and allows for freedom to grow.
