Anyone have prediction on the final bid on it ?

My guess is that there will be a reserve that is too high and it will not sell.

You guys are probably right. The seller is probably just "testing the waters" to see what it would bring in todays market and the reserve will be through the roof.

Who knows, maybe I am completely wrong.

Either way, I can't wait to see the bidding on it!! :D

Jumbo I guess is synonymous with untrimmed. Beautiful card!

I believe this is owned by John Rogers from Arkansas who does not need the money. As stated, he is probably just 'sticking his toe in the tub.'

It also brings attention to the auction.

Not so, it traded hands after that.

I agree. Normally I stay away from qualifiers, but in this case (one of the few) I think it better to have it all spelled out right there on the slab.

Who knows ..... maybe it will sell for 3mil????

I doubt it. It's surely a fantastically nice Wagner. But my belief is that many Wagner owners and/or those with the means to purchase such a card would prefer to have a lower conditioned example that exhibited a lack of such a dramatic tilt.

Not that any T206 Wagners have ever gotten special consideration from the grading companies but if a regular submitter sent even a common into PSA with this same cut it would be rejected for being miscut and grading fees would be refunded. The MC qualifier is supposed to be applied for atypical cuts as well but I have only seen it used for cards which are severely off center where margins are greater than 100/0. The reason PSA, more than SGC, has stayed away from holdering cards with atypical cuts is that it gives the perception the card may have been trimmed and once the card is encapsulated it can be difficult to tell.

Just noticed there is a tiny bit of the below card's border on lower right edge.

I agree that the jumbo Wagner should command a premium. It's unique, and gives the owner piece of mind that it hasn't been worked on.

I wonder if that relatively new collector who bought the 1955 Clemente PSA 10 and other cards recently has enough interest & funds to go for this Wagner.

For me, this jumbo Wagner is probably the best example ....

I love this Wagner card with the diamond cut & the huge bottom border. I'd actually want this particular one over some of the others (well, I'll take any of them to be honest :o). It's a little more "unique".

Sincerely, Clayton

I guess that little line is what justifies the MC qualifier. I've wondered why this card got a qualifier at all, but I guess that is it. Beautiful card. It is among the nicest Wagners out there.

Whoever gets it should trim it and re-sub it for an 8

My guess is the auction house begged the consignor to do this as a favor to raise the profile of the auction and as Jay said, the reserve will be so high it won't sell.

Why would someone who could afford this card bid in this auction, if the reserve is in fact too high? Someone who cold afford this card, I would imagine is very busy. I don't think we can gauge value from this auction, just a low estimate.

Unless ya'll know something the auctioneer doesn't there hasn't been a decision made concerning if there will be a reserve or not. I will guess that the card starts at about a third (around 500k) of it's probable value and won't have a reserve. There wasn't a decision made as of yesterday and mine is only a guess. There won't need to be a final decision on a reserve until game day. My guess is also that, depending on what rattles around the hobby, concerning the card until auction time, might be a deciding factor on a reserve too.

Edited to add, with some more thought and a few conversations my guess for the card will be about 2mil to 2.5 mil.....

Nah - as I said, just a guess. It would be a smart thing to do for a new auction house to try and establish themselves as a big player.

I don't know that it will have a reserve and I don't think there's anything wrong with it having a reserve, but do think it can be bad for an auction house's reputation to have too many big ticket items that don't meet reserve.

I'm not criticizing Goldin Auctions in this matter. Their first auction seemed to go well and had lots of high end stuff. And I can understand how an auction house would like to get a Wagner in its auction in any way it can.

The stock market has been flying since this card was purchased in 2008. The guys that can afford this kind of thing have a lot more wealth available. And good returns are hard to find. The Mastro confession came out since 2008 as well, so now this is the legit #1 card in the hobby.

The card will go north of double the 2008 price.

My father purchased this card in 1974 for $1,500 from a woman in VT. He then sold it in 1984 for $23,000.

I have a letter from the woman, written to my father, explaining how this card (and others) belonged to her late father and she was looking to sell them. To me, it's likely the most interesting thing currently in my/my father's collection.

+ 1 Really cool to hear part of the history of certain cards.
