I just picked up the Wilhelm "suffered" card. Im working on a T205 Master set which is every card in the set including all back variations. And at least 1 card from every brand/factory.

Just 1 card to go, but I am not sure I will ever get it. The Hoblitzel "no stats" might just be to scarce and expensive.

Oh heck why not. As many of you know I am SABR geek so seeing something like this is great fun!

The photo PC is a shot of Babe at Majestic Field in Hot Springs, AR and is thought to be from Spring Training in 1915 or 1916. Majestic Field was located at the site of the current Boys & Girls Club and a baseball field sits on the very same site though for 50 years a swimming pool was at that location.

Majestic Field was created in 1909 following an argument between the Red Sox, Pirates, Dodgers and Phillies over the use of Whittington Park Field or Ban Johnson Field which was located near the downtown area at the north end of the trolley line. The Red Sox who stayed at the Majestic Hotel built their new field at the south end of the trolley line and named it for their hotel.

Part of each team's agreement with the city was free transportation on the trolley system.

A decade or so back this series of PCs turned up in a auction, perhaps on eBay? A reproduction of the set made it to our local Advertising & Promotions Commission which has done a wonderful job of promoting the birth of Spring Training here in 1886. Each year they issue a set of postcards with images of our history, there have been a dozen or so Bill Clintons and about 6 or 7 Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner issues. The PC Pete has which is amazing was one of the images reproduced years ago along with the others in the set.

This past March we launched the Hot Springs Historic Baseball Trail, a series of 27 large cast plaques honoring specific sites around town where significant baseball events occuered from 1886 to 1952. Some of the sites in incude each of the five fields used and such events as Ruth's 565 foot homerun on St. Patrick's Day 1918. Through a barn storming tour with Campanella and Robinson in 1952. By the way Ruth historian Bill Jenkinson sites the 1918 Ruth homer as the true turning point in Red Sox leaderships decision to let him play full-time. One of my favorites is the plaque at the site of the high school gymnasium where Wagner taught the school team how to play basketball. Walter Johnson was reported in the local paper to have joined in after enjoying a morning of hot baths.

During the event in March the A&P hosted a luncheon to honor the SABR members from all over that helped put the project together including Jenkinson from Philadelphia, Tim Reid from Florida and Don Duren of Dallas. Each member was given a framed set of copies of the PC set that Pete's card is from.

I do want to stress that the copies of the PCs were more black & white than sepia and were much larger. Sorry for my rambling, hope some of you got some fun out of it.

Hey Phil,
Lol I'm sure it would look good in your collection. I saw yours, which was the only other known PC which was an SGC 50. The one I picked up was the SGC 60 in Goodwin last year. Amazingly, the 2 I've added cost me a lot more than 15k per PC if you can believe that, as Ruth anything has skyrocketed. Especially, the really rare items.

Jaeon,

That Ten Million looks great for an SGC 10. What knocked it down so low? Great pick up.

Thanks! Unfortunatley back damage with some paper loss. But the front is great along with its borders so it displays nice. I had a tough time finding another, so this one fits the bill.

Hey Phil,
Lol I'm sure it would look good in your collection.

Hey Pete, this is Joe T. and I wanted to congratulate you on those awesome Babe Ruth postcard pickups. I originally owned the "hands on hip" one before selling it to Jeff earlier this year. Super investment card, especially considering the excessive demand for early Ruth memorabilia. Enjoy!

Its in Chicago, every year the week prior to Thanksgiving and again in the Spring. I think 400 tables seems to be the concensus guess, but this year seemed much lower for whatever reasons. Only found 2 tables with Cracker Jacks, tons of 1960s stuff. Up here Chicago and Cleveland is our only action. I was thinking of starting to venture to Pittsburgh or Philly.

Which Cleveland action do you speak of? I'm way out of the loop, but aside from the one big April show, what else is usually in this area?

Love the description:"..a big fellow..".
Wonder who was in charge of making up the descriptions. Was it someone who actually knew and watched baseball? Or simply had stats and made it up from there based on player image, height, demographics.

Went by the Moeller Show on Friday. One of my best days of the year...my son and I eat junk and shop for baseball cards. Did some business with with my friend Dave at Baggers, who I highly recommend. Made a few pickups...a couple of upgrades to get the Monster in a little better shape. Also found one of those purple stamped numbers ISpikedCobb collects, which I'll pass along to him if he wants it or hang on to it if he doesn't. I also got a chance to pick up two AB beaters for $20 which I just couldn't pass. Had a great time...my son who is now 18, and I have been going to the show since he was 7.

Not a card but I thought you guys might like this, especially with Veterans Day just passing. I picked up this photo of The Babe last night. I love it. He's signing bats while in the military for other soldiers stationed around the country. The tags on the bats have the names of different bases on them.

The best part about the photo though is that it was taken on July 22, 1926. Exactly 59 years to the day before I was born.

Matty in windup on front, Polo Grounds on back, what could be better for this old Giants fan? Love the fact he is just IDed as "Matty."

Took me 29 years of collecting but I finally found my Holy Grails! Rare silks of John Lorbert and Rube Oldring! I'm so thrilled to have added these to my collection! Nothing could pry them away from me! (But see: BST)

Ed, I sent a link to one of those cards on ebay, to someone who said they were looking for them for a friend. If that friend is you, I'll send future notes to you instead.

Not all of the below items are from November but wanted to share anyway. Thanks Leon for the Scrapps and Churchman's Ruth!

The other items are as follows:

1) 1860 NY Illustrated News of the Grand Baseball Match for the Championship between the Excelsior and Atlantic Clubs! (great article along with it)
2) American Theater Playbill for "Runaway Colt" starring Cap Anson
3) 1888 Hastings lithograph of the Boston Baseball Club (before and after restoration)

My favorite card of all-time (well my favorite card of all-time that I would ever be able to afford without the help of the Powerball).
(I'm already looking to upgrade it to a slightly better PSA 1 condition)
