Supposedly a Gem Mint, as graded by SBC...

Seem fishy?

Old company from the '80s, before PSA and SGC if I remember right. Not too sure about the quality of product though...

It actually looks like a real SGC holder with a fake flip designed to look like the old SGC flips. When they used a scroll on the front of them. Very deceptive.

It is not deceptive at all. SBC predated SGC and they "invented" the grading system that SGC used until recently when they added a few new half grades. As I understand it, Certified Collectibles Group bought SBC and created SGC.

Scott. Thanks for clearing that up. That would certainly explain why it looks so much like an SGC slab. I had never heard of SBC and didn't realize they were a real grading company.

At a minimum, there is a reason that this experienced seller hasn't had the Revelle crossed to PSA or SGC.

Kevin, you are incorrect. Please explain how SGC would have started with the same head grader and same odd grading scale without a business transaction of some sort.

And, for sure, there is a reason that that card is still sitting in an SBC holder.

i just said that joe merkle was an executive for both companies, that explains the similarity on grades and format of the holders. And no, i am not incorrect....SBC and SGC are not linked by ownership.

Right, they are linked by a business transaction which changed ownership but left a number of other things in place which I have said since the beginning.

scott- would you like joe's phone number? Holy crap man, is this your card or something? I would swear you have a vested interest if it isn't your card.....

It's considered polite to wait a week before a bump. Other people have stuff for sale too.

Considering the card and the history, i suspect that the Revelle is not trimmed, and likely is from the noted Southern Cards find of T206's, from the late 1980's.

I believe that there were over 1000 cards in that find, and simply put, they are the absolute finest T206's i've ever encountered, in over 40 years in the hobby.

Imo, the buyer of this card (no, it wasn't me), probably made himself a pretty good deal.

... didn't realize they were a real grading company.

Laughing out loud.

What exactly constitutes a "real" grading company?

Don't they all give their opinions based on their own self professed ability to do so?

Just wondering,
Doug

With regard to SBC, it was imo a reputable grading company, that was just a few years ahead of it's time. The majority of those involved with the company at that time, are/were veteran hobbyists

By "real company" I meant not just some scammer printing a fake slip to look like an SGC flip and inserting it into a real SGC slab in order to scam someone.

Although just for record I don't consider all grading companies "real grading companies" either. Some of them are too bad for me to consider them a real grading company. Just my opinion.

A ''Real Grading Company'' is one whose product will 'crossover' to another reputable and well-established grading company at approximately the same level ; also it will have a bunch of numbers and one of those little bar-code thingys.........I bought these from Leon at the National.
