View Full Version : Fix for Lazy Auction Hunters

I got kindof annoyed having to jump from lot to lot on Hunt Auctions to see what I want. I am in IT, so I wanted to automate the process for my lazy self.

I have created an app that writes a spreadsheet that has the lot#, description of the item, and a link to the auction site. If anyone is interested send me a PM or tell me where to put it.

If the demand is high, I can look into doing this for other auctions or making this spreadsheet include more info (like current bid or whatever)

Let me know what you guys think.

sounds like a neat application.

It's a shame that Hunt could not enhance their site to navigate an auction properly.

My though exactly, there is no search feature on thier site, how dumb is that when there are 1100+ lots. At least with a data dump into excel you can search on descriptions

It does have an archaic format but there is a search function. It's on the Internet phone auction home page.

News to me but that site could be so great

Is it true that they still use an abacus to figure the shipping charges?

In case anyone cares, I have pulled the historical auction history from Hunt into an Excel spreadsheet.

I also have a program that will go out and create a spreadsheet with the current status of all the items for the current auction

Please shoot me a PM if you want me to email it to you

.

. . . historical results of their internet/phone auctions too. I my untrained eye, it appears they only offer historical info on their Live auctions. Or am I missing something ?

I was able to get everything, so historical phone and historical live, about 70k lots over the last 10 years with estimated value, and winning bid amount

Isaac,

Wow...my day just got busier. Great data. The excel format definitely makes the "search" function that much better.

Great stuff.

Since people are PMing me like crazy, here is the Excel file with the Historical

The Current is a little different because it always changes, so I have to run the program, and to make that work, you need Office 2010 and .Net Framework 4.0.

I can attest to the heady amount of information Isaac has been able to pull from Hunt's website. The lack of any sort of searchable results for their monthly auctions is something that I have lamented for some time now, but now here it is!

The app to pull the current auction info also appears to work well, just not on my machine (due to my archaic software). I'm actually considering upgrading my Office install just so I can continue to compile auction results. In the meantime though, thank you Isaac for taking the initiative to put this together, and for your patience with trying to get the Current Auction app to run for me.

I had no problems running Office 2007 and .net framework 4.0.

Will this be a problem for future auctions?

Thanks for the program

Did i give you the program that you have to run? That is where you need the special instructions. It will work with future auctions, barring Hunt doesnt change their website structure.

Ditto here too. Dropbox has nothing. I would love to have the spreadsheet too.

If you go to Hunts website. They show past auctions all the way back to 1999. With pictures and dollar results.

Only of their live auctions not the monthly ones.
