I'm going to be spending a little bit of time in Rochester New York visiting some family. I have been there an awful lot and am hoping that some of you have some ideas for some off the beaten path stuff to do. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Yes, could you please try to locate this baseball field for me? It's in Seneca Park in Rochester, 1892. :)

I have never been to Rochester, NY. I know of one woman from the area who is a great person.

As for off the beaten path, no baseball card reference here, but you could always visit the grave of the most likely Jack the Ripper:

I live in Rochester... All depends on how off the beaten path you want to go. What you're looking to do.

Give me some guidelines, and I'll make some suggestions.

Catch a Rochester Red Wings game (Twins farm team). Their home dates are Aug 30-31 (vs Buffalo) and Sept 3 (vs Syracuse).

Also, check out the old Kimball's Tobacco Factory (#649). You can't miss it, it has a tall chimney stack towering over the Genesee River.

If you're hungry, have a garbage plate at Nick Tahou's

Garbage plates are a must, that said, Nick's (albeit the original) isn't in the greatest neighborhood. You can get a "plate" in any suburb. Fairport Hots, penfield Hots, empire Hots, etc etc... Depending on where your staying I can recommend one.

Any interesting museums/places to eat? Anywhere fun to walk around/shop? I've had garbage plates and actually took my whole family to a game at Frontier Field a few years ago.

Josh,

My Sister-In-Law lives outside of Rochester. For really good Italian food, I would recommend Agatinas (<cite>www.agatinas.com). </cite>If you need to go shopping, Wegman's are great Supermarkets. If you like antique stores, there is a big multi dealer shop (s) about 20 minutes from Rochester. The only problem is that they are mostly cases, but I did pretty well with sports items. It has been more than 5 years since I was there and can't remember the name, but I bet you could google it.

Good luck,
Jeff

Jeff may be thinking of the Ontario Antiques Mall: http://www.ontariomallantique.com/
Good variety of stuff there.

Also, if you haven't been, the Strong Museum of Play in downtown Rochester is a must, in our opinion:

Nearby as well, the justly renowned George Eastman House / Museum of Photography:

Depending on what side of town your on there are a lot of great Italian eateries. Michaels valley grill in penfield is great. Leos bakery in east Rochester is a great deli/bakery. The park avenue area is great for just taking a weekend stroll. I'll second the strong museum of play. Every game/toy you could ever recall. The Seneca park zoo is actually a pretty good for a smaller city. George Eastman house is kinda touristy, but also pretty cool stuff if youre interested in photography, and History of imaging, movies etc...
