With some sophisticated software that will calculate the number of missing bits as the file gets older and slightly corrupted.

The holder to fit an entire I pad will be a tough one though.

So you reach your collecting plateau when your iPad memory is full?? :D

It's not for me, but I see the allure. I think it's kind of neat.

People pay for ringtones, why not pay a bit extra for a personalized voice message and wall paper for your computer from your favorite athlete. I can see this being popular as a gift.

Not everybody buys stuff from a collectible or investment standpoint. If they did QVC would have been out of business a long time ago.

It's the novelty and personalization of it that may make it popular.

Its a fancy expensive way of getting a somewhat personal email from a player. I get the allure. Not for me either, but I get it.

Jim,

Please step back from the ledge!

It's a novelty gift. I could see someone buying for a friend as a cool different type of gift. They're paying more for the personal greeting than really a signature.

I can't imagine this would really appeal to an autograph collector. I also don't think this would prevent someone from buying a true autographed picture.

Best,
Mark

it's the next idea someone dreamt up to try to make money,

like psa's rookie graphs. i have yet to see a rookie graph. it flopped but just another revenue stream.

like calling larry holmes for 20 bucks. its a gimmick.

I don't see what's so horrible about it. I'd fork over $50 to have a personalized iPad wallpaper with audio message from my favorite player. If Rivera was on the list I'd do it in a second.

It's not replacing autographs. Look at the bright side, maybe it will spark an interest in real autographs in kids. That can't be bad for the hobby. :)

I was so depressed when I saw this a couple of weeks ago, I refused to post it. The Rays are a first adopter of this abomination. PFFFFT.

I don't look at this as having anything to do with autographs. Things are so impersonal with sports and sports figures these days, even at a show where you get an autograph. So impersonal, so robotic. I think it is great to have this kind of personal interaction with a player. I would not hesitate to do this for my kids if they wanted it for their birthday.

I have grown to love the autograph hobby, and see zero connection between this and the hobby. In many respects, this is more personal than an in person autograph.

i'm with jim, this is nuts, pushing carts at walmart if this takes off. Probably pushing carts at walmart anyway, but at least this way i can blame it on something.

I don't need anybody to talk to me on an ipad, reminds me of therapy buddy. "everything is going to be alright!"
