With some of the high grade complete or near complete sets coming up
for auction soon if you had (or have) the money would you want to buy
a comlete set of your favorite vintage cards at one time? Personally for
me alot of the fun is in the hunt buying them a few here and there, not
that it wouldn't be nice, but it would be a one shot and mission accomplished.
I know with some of the rare sets it's probably the only way you could
complete them.

If I had the money. I would buy a T206 complete set and have fun selling some of the common backs and upgrading to rarer backs.

For me it's all about the journey. I would never purchase a complete set, but to each his/her own.

I'd rather collect a set one-by-one, did it with t206 cards and it was a great feeling when I reached my goal. That being said, I started buying Old Judge cards afterwards and if I had a chance to buy a whole player set, along with the money to do it(I'd love to know where this part is coming from) I would definitely buy the whole set because there are players that just don't ever show up. I recently bought two cards at the same time that are on the "very scarce" list from the Miller/Masson/Gonsowski book and that felt like a huge accomplishment.

Collecting sets is much more fun and gratifying than buying complete ones

I once bought two large T206 lots that covered over 400 cards in the set. I only have about 60 'keepers'. I think it's a lot of fun to buy lots that large, knowing only a small percentage will fit your 'needs'.

would be fun to buy 500 t206s or ojs, spread them out and dive in scrooge mcduck-style.

let say you have 35 left on your monster set, and someone happens to have all 35? would you then buy them all and not hunt them one or two at a time? what number would you pull the trigger and buy them all or not buy them all if they all became available from someone at once and it completed your set? 10, 20, 50, 100?

Buy it. Pull out what you want and sell the rest.

If I needed 35 and someone had those 35, it's unlikely that all 35 would meet my collection requirements. If a few did, I'd buy them and sell the undesirables.

But I see what you're getting at. If 10 met my requirements, at a really good price that I could afford, I'd do it. If all 35? Not sure. It would definitely take the fun out of it, but by the time you get to only needing 35, you might be worn out and ready to be done with it.

If I had the money I would buy a complete set and then work on upgrading it to keep the thrill of the hunt alive. Also, there are so many sets to collect I would still be working on plenty others a few at a time.
