Not to sound stupid, and I certainly don't mean to defend PSA, but are there ever occasions when mold or fungus can accumulate within the holder after grading--maybe through moisture that got trapped?

If they otherwise think that card deserves a 5, well, um, yikes.

Exactly what I thought before I even read your reponse Todd.
It looks like a mold/mildew from getting damp at one time.

Not sure what happened to that Chuck Klein but I have seen many Kellogg's 3D cards crack after encapsulation.
From the rare test issue Clemente to common 1970's/80's cards and I always wonder about mold or fading on other issues over time after the slabbing process.

Are slabs UV treated?

Yes, there is a fungus among us. Instead of TPG, perhaps PSA should be known as a TPD...Third Party Degrader.

Thanks, I'm here all day.

and don't forget to tip your waitress or waiter!!

I think the mold was there already and to me it should have had a 1 grade downgrade for it. That's just me though...

I've had a moisture problem once with a psa holder. It was a cold rainy day and i had a card delivered that day. After unpacking it in the warm house, the case started to fog up on the inside. It did finally go away and it was only a $10 card but the point is, if you can have moisture, you can have fungus. Not sure if thats the case with the card in question since it looks to be one of the newer holders.

Maybe somebody didn't let the card dry out properly after soaking it out of a scrap book. They could have submitted it, got it graded, and then the mold grew while it was in the holder.

Is it me or does the top edge of the holder look frosted when looking from the back. I wander if the tag has been changed.
