Good ole Reggie Jackson, in his outspoken way, he made news this week......but, whatever you think of REGGIE, I don't think
he has ever "juiced" himself up with PED's.

Anyhow, here is a bit of REGGIE trivia......

With respect to hitting HR's, what unheralded record does Reggie have that no other ballplayer has ever achieved ?

Shot in the dark here, but I notice from his stats that he hit at least 14 homers in 20 straight seasons. Not sure anyone else has done that.

Well he hit at least 100 home runs for three different teams. Has anyone else done that?

Yep, Darrell Evans and A-Rod did.

Edited to add: Thome, too. My bad.

I think it was Nettles (maybe Lyle or Rivers) that said of the Reggie bar that you open it up and it tells you how good it is.

I once had the good fortune of having dinner with Dick Howser, then Yankee 3rd base coach, at a place called Thompson's Sea Girt House in Baltimore, which was frequented by the Yankees. The dinner was arranged by a fellow I shared an office with at the Justice Dept, who was related to Dick's wife. I was absolutely amazed at how candid Dick was in his comments about ballplayers. He said Reggie was one of the biggest jerks he had ever met, especially prone to flashing a wad of 100s at every opportunity.

Five HR on five swings, he hit a HR on the first pitch of the next season, and the Reggie bars that the Yankees had given away came down on the field.

My favorite Reggie Jackson stat is that for his career he had more strikeouts than hits. I met him twice; what a db.

Never met him, but based on his behavior I would equate him with Pete Rose in my db HOF. Rose, I met several times - ALWAYS a db.

True Reggie story -

In 1981 after the player strike, the All Star Game was in Cleveland. My aunt got some tickets, and I went with my brother and cousin. We were in the left field bleachers and during batting practice Reggie was out in left catching fly balls.

The Cleveland fans hated the Yankees, and especially Reggie. They were calling him names, yelling at him and Reggie just ignored it.

Then Reggie made a nice running catch on the warning track and all the fans started yelling "Hey Reggie, great catch, throw me the ball Reggie" and things to that effect.

Reggie looked at the fans, smile, nodded, pointed to a fan and pretended to toss him the ball, then shook his head no, smiled and threw it into the infield.

Then the fans really let Reggie have it.

Funniest thing I ever saw at the time as an 18 year old kid from Illinois who had no vested interest in Cleveland's hatred of all things Yankee.
