View Full Version : Look what the U.S. Post Office did to my card

I shipped this card from Pennsylvania to an eBay buyer in Milwaukee last month. I secured it between two heavy pieces of cardboard, then mailed it inside a thick bubble mailer.

This is how it arrived to him:

Card itself is ruined with two large creases now, so the USPS transformed this card from an 8 into a 1. Thanks! Only a $20 loss that I had to eat (uninsured), but figured I would post this on here to vent and as a warning to others.

This is the second graded card the USPS has cracked for me in a span of two years. I guess the only way to guarantee that they won't destroy your card is to place them in priority mail boxes. And the government wonders why the Post Office finds itself in a $15 billion debt hole.

UPS HERE I COME!

Rob sorry for the incident. That being said if you think UPS is any gentler on fragile packages you have another thing coming. Speaking from experience unfortunately.

How was it packed? Just curious for future shipping.

Man, some klutz must have dropped a 200-lb. load on it. And, not just that, but must have aimed the corner of the load so as to do as much violence to the bubblepack as possible. Newman maybe.

I strongly agree with Tony A. UPS, at one time, was the safer route to go. In recent years, the USPS has improved their safety preformance, while UPS has declined. They've meet somewhere in the middle. One big difference-- it's much, much less of a hassle to collect on insured items with the USPS. Never thought I'd say it...I now prefer them.

At low price levels, the rate of attrition is likely lower than the cost to insure. Yet, I always pay the extra to avoid such moments. For tasks such as these, good help is hard to find.

I had two heavy pieces of cardboard around it inside a thick bubble mailer. I have shipped hundreds of graded cards this way with good result.

But it was not enough this time to protect this card from Newman (or maybe Ace Ventura part I - intro.)
