Can anyone here tell me how the Columbus Salons came to acquire their name? I haven't been able to find much information about them online. They played in the old American Association from 1889-91.

Thanks in advance!

Probably a misspelling of Solons. Solons was a popular newspaper headline writers' term for a group of legislators such as Federal or state senators and representatives.

Columbus, being the capital of Ohio, got its nickname from that convention.

Other minor league teams were also called Solons, i.e., Sacramento.

Thanks, Bob.

It would have helped if I would have spelled it right in my question:o
