I never got to start a monthly pickup off, so I am pleased to show off my 1989 UD Griffey Jr RC.
Definitley not my first Griff but my first PSA 10!

What is the value of the 89 Griffey in 10 these days?

Newest pickup. Not a card that I was necessarily in the market for, but was listed as a standard Chrome rookie and had a blurry pic. I thought I saw a glimpse of an odd glare, so I took a chance. Couldn't wait to get it in the mail and see.

Picked this up at a show earlier today for 50.00$. Turns out the BV for this card is actually 200.00$!

Nicely done! It's great to get a deal like that once in a while.

I don't really collect the newer baseball cards, but I wanted an Ozzie Smith autograph, so I picked this up which seemed appropriate since he's known for his glove work. Maybe I'll get it graded one day. It's one of 96 made.

I lived in St Louis when the Cardinals traded Templeton for Smith. At that time people there thought San Diego got the better of the deal because Templeton had been a better hitter. He had, however, worn out his welcome with some fans and management over some infantile on and off field behavior. He and Brock were often considered life long Cardinals by some, like Gibson and Musial, even though both in fact started their careers elsewhere.

I was one of those that thought they were crazy to trade Templeton for Ozzie. Templeton was a .300 hitter while Ozzie was known as "no bat - all glove". I have to admit though, in the long run it was proven that the Cardinal management was a lot smarter than I was. Ozzie improved his hitting over the years and is just such a good guy, you can't help but like him.

Some very nice, highest PSA-graded 2007 Upper Deck Masterpieces (5x7 Box Topper autographs). Love 'em...................

Growing up in Central Illinois, I remember the immortal line from Templeton - "If I ain't startin, I ain't departin'" - referring to his not starting the All Star Game. It was downhill from there, Herzog cleaned house in the off season, and when Gene Tenace was photographed dragging Templeton into the dugout after Tempy did something (I Forget, maybe flipped off fans???? - anyone remember??) he was history.

We were lucky to get anything for him.

Yes, he was being booed by the home folk over a half hearted effort in the field; forget if it involved base running or fielding. As he was heading into dug out he flipped the fans behind the dug out. He got dragged into the dug out. That was why even though some folks thought San Diego was getting the better deal, they were resigned to it. In any event, in those days Herzog could do no wrong.

Didn't pick these up this month more like the last few. The Thomas I've had for a while. Haven't posted here on Net 54 for a long time.

Chris - that's a gorgeous Campy. Just a rotten shame he never made
it to LA. :(

Thanks, Dave. Unfortunately I can't take the credit for it. That is a Bob Lemke original that he was kind enough to send to me for my collection.

It is a shame that he never made it to LA. I often wonder if he could have overcome the injuries he was battling to once again become a star. I have my doubts but I still wish he could have gone out on his own terms rather than because of a stupid accident.
