So I got my Jackie signed picture today and I was hoping someone could help identifying the people in the background...It looks like the pictures were taken at a Brooklyn Dodgers event.... Pics aren't the best, but the best I could do with my camera and the size of the photo. :o

Per the last picture it looks like Walter O'malley in the middle and Buzzie Buvasi on the very end on the right

Mike,

Thank you very much! I wonder if the individual who took the pictures and got the Jackie signatures worked for the organization....Man, I wish it was that easy to get the back story on many of these items.

That is definitely O Malley.
I am glad that so many Net54 guys were able to get such a reasonably priced authentic Jackie Robinson autograph and that I was able to help though I regret missing out myself.

Reasonably priced? Heck Richard, that was a steal.

Richard,

I don't the the few guys that won one of that Jackie's can thank you enough for your help with this. Just shows how special the Net54 community is.

I have been talking to another guy that snagged one of the photo's and he has Dressen in his photo...with that and the photo of Duke and his son I am assuming the photo's were taken sometime around 1952...Thoughts?

Dressen managed from 1951-53 so it can be called circa 1952.

I went back and looked at the others and solved the date issue.

Here's the back of another picture. Looks like 1952 also

Well there we go....what is the trophy for? Does anyone else think Dressen is 5th from the left??

RichardSimon
06-16-2012, 10:22 AM
Dressen was all of 5'5" and the fifth guy in the picture is shorter than the others. You may be right.

James, the one next to last on the right (next to the one I believe is Bavasi) might be Fresco Thompson. I believe he was assistant GM in 52.

So it sounds like this is what we know so far... Assuming the ladies are wives of the gentlemen...The only two men left are the ones on the far left...

Sometimes the fun is still in the hobby and this is a fun project.
Kind of like when I get an old Hollywood autograph book and start researching the names and find a hidden gem or two.

I agree. The fun, to me, is in the research and search of items. There's almost a bit of a let down once you complete it.

I gotta believe this is the executive team, but I can't find the 1952 executive team listed anywhere!

I found this site and if you go to the bottom it lists the front office staff...although on some of those I couldn't find a picture. Does anyone have a 52 or 53 yearbook. They might be in there.

I can imagine the photographer taker/autograph getter being an employee of the team. Perhaps a relative of an employee who tagged along. A couple of the images don't appear to be 'fan access.' One was in the lockerroom, where I assume fans weren't allowed.

Who ever it is, Someone needs to tell Dressen that the old saying "KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL" applies on the playing field and not in the clubhouse

I am pretty sure it is Preacher Roe.

Leon...I'm still laughing too every time I look at that photo ! That thing is hilarious !!! What in the World is Charlie Dressen doing to the poor guy ???...lol, That picture would be perfect for a "Invent a crazy caption contest or something" , It may be Pafko and it may be Roe but I'll tell you for sure its not Carl Furillo...(smile), Carl would have smacked Dressen into the next century if he ever tried to grope him like that

Altho there is a very slight resembalance to Roe & Pafko, I am pretty sure it is neither one. Roe was about 37 by then and a tall 6'2" string bean who weighed about 170. This fellow appears younger & much heavier.

I sent a copy to a very serious Dodger collector who is not a regular here.
I will post when I get his answer.

Still waiting for that answer but in the mean time,, I found this picture of Roe on the net,,

RichardSimon

It is Andy Pafko according to one of the biggest Dodger collectors in the country.

Well , we've learned alot in this thread Mostly that Charlie Dressen was VERY fond of Andy Pafko

yanks12025

I know Andy is 91 now, but you guys think it would be cool to have him sign
It or that kill the value?

mr2686
06-17-2012, 09:39 AM
Didn't Pafko go on to coach under Dressen for the Braves? They obviously had a very "close" and "special" relationship...not that there's anything wrong with that :D

jgmp123
06-17-2012, 11:25 AM
The picture is so small that is Pafko did sign it, I would expect it to cover the picture or run into Jackie. I would leave it as is...but that's just my opinion.

JimStinson
06-17-2012, 11:46 AM
Pafko signing it would absolutely hurt the value of the photo as his autograph brings a few bucks at best so that would NOT be a good idea. The Jackie signature is a beauty and the photo is comical as heck as it is so why mess with perfection. I'm certain that Jackie walked away after signing that photo, with tears in his eyes from laughter.
Also I thought there was an outside chance that the person in the photo was pitcher Ray Moore but I did an online search for Ray Moore and this is the photo I found so am fairly certain its not Ray Moore. Its Pafko

Richard,

I came across these other ones also on ebay that were ended early? Do these look good also? They all came form the same place because Drew looked at them all on the same day. Would someone really ask Jackie to sign all these random photos, what if there's even more out there. Just seems odd!

The ebay link you had posted showed nothing.
They are a bunch of random photos but all obviously taken by the same person, probably on the same day, and signed on the same day by Jackie.
