"? AUTHTCT" means that PSA deemed it a fake. Some eBay sellers seem to try to persuade potential buyers that this is identical or similar to the PSA AUTHENTIC grade.

Wow, that's incredibly confusing. I've never seen that on a PSA label. Having a word so closely resemble AUTHENTIC could really dupe someone.

They should use "NOT AUTHTCT" instead of "? AUTHTCT" After all, what's the question?

Not sure why they need to issue a flip with a fake card.

Why is PSA issuing labels for fake cards? That fake is already pulling in $108 from multiple bidders. It's been only 2 hours since they listed it - 11 bids.

Incredible.

That was made on a regular desktop printer. SGC would label it counterfeit, seen that before.

That's the label term they've used for a long time on rejected cards. I agree it should be changed to be more clear.

I should buy a bunch of "distressed" Wagner reprints for ~ $0.50/ea, poke a hole over his face, and submit to PSA for the nice label they're issuing for fakes.

Seems to boost the price of reprints handsomely, doesn't it? The fake Wagner is going for 10x the amount of a 206 common!

Technically the seller is being 100% transparent with this auction. He has worded it so that eBay has no justifiable reason to take it down. After all, ? AUTHTCT is PSA saying that it's a fake -- a $0.02 reprint.

Totally irrational for this fake to sell for $1,000 (at the pace its going).

I'm probably not the only one, but I reported it to eBay this morning. Obviously intentional deception by the seller.

I think it should've been allowed to sell.

Anyone dumb enough to think they're getting a real Wagner for $500 deserves to lose their $500.

Anyone making purchases inside the hobby for $500 that is so uneducated, that they'd be willing to buy that reprint, I think deserves to lose their money.

It's not as if the seller was lying, he was misleading maybe a little, but he wasn't calling it authentic.

While there is a "sucker born every minute," I will attempt to step in if I think deception is in play. I still had the page cached in my browser:

T206 PIEDMONT - HONUS WAGNER

PSA "? AUTHTCT"

This card is in poor shape. Missing pieces from the bottom left of the card and multiple creases along with a piece of the card torn off where Wagner's face would be. I believe the card to be authentic but I'll let you you be the judge!!

This card will not last long. Still in the original PSA holder they returned the card in. I will also include the original Packing Slip PSA sent back with the card back in mid-2009.

Please see pics. Any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Here was the response he sent when I asked about it...

I agree. Number one if I new it was 100% authentic...I would have started bidding at $50,000
Secondly...it states...questionable authenticity. So in the end they could not confirm or deny it's authenticity. So it is what it is. Again...if I knew 100% it was real...I wouldn't have listed it for 0.99. I do know that another PSA one identical to mine sold for over $9k on ebay about 18 months ago

Cheers
Matt

It's fake, and I'm sure the new posting has been reported to eBay and will soon be taken down.

Okay so let's imagine this card was indeed Authentic (which it's not).

How much would such a beat up Wagner go for? A Wagner in that condition is such an eyesore that I think it's only value would be for the PSA registry. It would allow you to achieve 100% completion, a rare echelon. However, I would be hesitant to show the card to anyone.

$50k?

What about a step further. Let's say someone uncovered a Wagner sawed in half. How much would 50% of a Wagner go for?

questionable authenticity?

come on PSA that gives the seller way to much wiggle room...why even send it back with a flip....yuck

bad idea

I either case, the card would probably be extensively restored. there has also been some "loose talk" of doing a wagner card that is much like a bat card where little shards or a real wagner would be embedded into a few hundred reproductions...such a card may be a good candidate for that, but if it would go above $10K I could not see the math work.

"Questionable Authenticity" is what it means.

Currently at $840. At this point the seller technically isn't doing anything wrong (except calling the card beautiful).

ebay rules state that a t206 wagner cannot be sold on its site unless it has been authenticated by one of the big graders, so technically he is not following the rules.

here is their rule

this auction should be reported and delisted.

he says that ebay requires him to relist it as a reprint, but he is not really listing it as a reprint in the title or the description, he just says psa requires him to. its still under the baseball card group.

it should be in the title Honus wagner t206 REPRINT.
----------------------------------------

You can list the following trading cards only if they've been professionally graded by a reputable grading company:

1909 Cy Young (T206)

1909 Eddie Plank error card (T206)

1909 Honus Wagner (T206)

1909 Ty Cobb (T206)

1933 Babe Ruth (Goudey #53, #80, #144, and #181)

1933 Lou Gehrig (Goudey #92 and #160)

Here's the link to the rule; under guidelines, click trading cards:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/autographs.html

The seller did not comply with this part:
"Having trading cards graded by a grading company helps buyers know the value of the card you're listing. When listing any of the below trading cards, the following information must be stated word for word in the listing and in the same font size as the rest of the description:
The seller has taken the appropriate steps to have this trading card professionally graded by a reputable grading company."

From eBay's perspective, I don't know if they consider this card "graded" since documentation is provided:
You can list the following trading cards only if they've been professionally graded by a reputable grading company.

It is graded.

Graded "? AUTHTCT" by PSA.

Not a reprint because it's authenticity is questionable so it may or may not be real. ;)
