Picked one of these up on BST recently (thanks Nate!!) and since I haven't seen a thread on these in a few years, I wanted to see if anyone was collecting them, if any more info on this set had been uncovered, etc...

I believe only six players have been uncovered and the poses on all cards match those from the e98/e93 sets. These terrific looking cards were printed on a semi-thin paper stock with either a red or blue-ish tint. From what I've read, players have been found in both color schemes as well as both with and without a squarelike "base" attached to the card. It seems that the cards with the bases still attached go for twice that of the regular cards, however, by looking at the scans closely, I'm not positive that the regular cards are simply the full versions with the base cut off. Any thoughts on that?

From a collecting standpoint, these are incredibly scarce cards as, when last checked, only EIGHT cards total had been graded by SGC and none by PSA. This represents significantly fewer cards than another better known, yet incredibly scarce set that came out the very same year - the 1910 Eunc Orange Borders.

Any ideas on what these might have been cut off of or why they're known as "Candy" cards?

There are only six players in the set, is that still accurate? 6 players - all HOFers and NO commons - are as follows....

Cobb
Collins
Evers
Mathewson
Wagner
Young

So that's pretty much all I know on these for now, please chime in to this thread if I've missed anything. Oh and also, if you've got one of these, feel free to show it off here too!

I have an Evers with the full diamond on the sides, he is blue and I have a red Cy Young. I sold Wonka my blue Mathewson. I am not really collecting them but I like all types of candy box cards. Dan.

I know Wonkaticket has a couple SGC Matty's and there are a couple others from this set floating around our community. I wonder if Net 54 member's cards from this set would make up the bulk if not all of the cards that SGC has graded.
