Has anyone ever seen uniforms or coats like these before?

The jackets are pretty standard style for the 1900's. Browns 1908, and White Sox 1903:

The Ritter, Kansas City, white border card depicts a fellow in a coat like that. It is unusual. Joe Jackson's red border Old Mill card has him in such a coat, too.

Those are some great photos and i would love to own one of those fabulous coats, but are those buttons or doorknobs?

I recently saw a photo of a 1903 Ellensburg semi-pro team in almost identical button-down p-coats. A few of the nine worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad so I had assumed they were stevedore uniforms they stole/borrowed for the photo. This totally realigns my thinking. It really does seem to be the popular style of overcoat at the time. Probably, heavy, thick wool the weatherproofing of its day.
