It's not just forging a collectible, but a brand name product-- pirating. Double legal whammy, plus the wine makers may civilly sue him. I'm sure piracy is prosecuted hard these days.

This makes me think, why would someone pay $1M for a bottle of wine, but I'm sure the guy drinking the wine is thinking, why would someone pay $1M for a baseball card.

That's what I was thinking. If the bogus wine tasted like the 4-figure wine to the duped, they should be drinking cheaper wine.

There are several versions of this article - some go into more detail on the paper he used to forge the labels, which I thought was the most interesting part - obviously people were more interested in what was IN the bottle, so could miss label age issues.
