I was thinking back to my 1953 Pee Wee Reese which for some reason I can't find at the moment but I just love the image. Nothing better than an good action shot. I have to look around for some better cards and photos but I grabbed a quick photo some. Let's see what you got....

Here is the Reese. This card always makes me wonder what cards carry the highest premium for a great photo. Reese is up there, Horizontal Obaks and Zeenuts. What else?

It is always the horizontal poses that catch my eye. I suppose that would be a fun collecting focus: the horizontal poses from every set.

and technically not vintage, but this card has a great action shot (well, it is over 40 yrs. old)...

Several years ago, I bought this 1955 TYPE 1 photograph of The Great Clemente by famed Sports Illustrated Lensman Herb Scharfman. The Image was used for Clemente's Classic 1956 TOPPS Card.

The 1956 Topps set is just absolutely chock-full of great action shots. The 1956 Clemente mentioned already in this thread is one of the best ever, i love shots where the fielder is in front of an interesting wall.

Raise your hand if you checked ebay for a '56 Clemente after reading this thread.

Most of my cards are portraits but I always loved this action shot of Red getting ready to fire one in there...

Brian - It is interesting that the V100 & E123 cards of Allan Russell show him swinging a bat, inasmuch as he was a pitcher - he was on Washington's 1924 W.S. Championship team.

Val,

I know it's strange, but remember Walter Johnson is also shown in both sets with a bat in his hands. Red Faber is also pictured batting.

A few years ago, I picked-up this TYPE 1 photo of Koufax during his record breaking Game 1 victory of the 1963 Fall Classic, in which he struck out 15 Yankees in The House That Ruth Built. And the following year, TOPPS turned the image into a W.S. Highlight card in the 1964 set.

That Wagner is something special. I love the story a simple picture can tell.

Hi Brian - Here's the V100 Johnson you referred to in post #21 along with WaJo's E253 Oxford Confectionery card, which also shows him holding a bat. WaJo was a very-good-hitting pitcher and was often used as a pinch hitter. His lifetime batting average is .235 and he hit 24 HRs during his career, most of them during the dead-ball era. I would have posted this sooner, but I was out of town for several weeks.

For some reason I stopped getting reply notifications, which I found out today after looking at some other threads I participated in. (Strange since my options are still to receive instant email notifications.)

I was surprised to see the above post displaying "Stealing Bandwidth Is A Crime" which is not what I posted. I see the source from which I grabbed the image also displays same. Don't know how long this has been displayed on this forum.

For the record, this is what I was posting - grabbed from another source.
http://90feetofperfection.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/alsmith1959worldseries.jpg

I guess you have to be careful when inserting links, as they may change at the source.

Still, a comedic action shot - me thinks, not to mention a classic.
